What am I doing WRONG??

that is a good rate, but not at airport?

Priceline uses the 5 major car rental agencies...consider using priceline. go to hotwire...check to see what the rate is...then go to priceline and bid about 40% less as a starting point and just getting use to the site. You probably wont get the rental for that. It gives you the opportunity to rebid on a different class of car at that point- you need to change two things from your orriginal bid. Then after 72 hours you can rebid. and go up a buck per day. Keep doing that until you get your car rental, But be sure that is the amount you want to pay for that rental. And that all info is entered correctly, once accepted there is no turning back.

I pick up my full size care in SFO tomorrow for 6 days for $113...$15 a day from Avis

Yes, the Hertz rate specifically excludes the airport.

I am afraid to use PL for rental cars. There is a risk I could get ALAMO!:scared1: In my long history of travel there is only ONE provider that when I said "NEVER AGAIN" I meant and that is Alamo LOL! NEVER AGAIN

I would keep checking. I started out at 245.00 for a midsize, renting in west palm beach and dropping off in tampa and i have it down to 179.00 and I will keep doing it until the end.

I agree with CarolA 1,000,000% on this one; I used to work in the auto rental industry here in LA (1986/1993) and the complaints I heard and the word-of-mouth I'd received from folks who'd rented from Alamo was almost always horrendous.

I also agree with her about utilizing Priceline for a rental as well.

Hertz Local Editon offices are not at the airport, but given the enormous difference in price, why is that even important?

If the difference between renting a car for two weeks at a Hertz Local Edition office in Orlando will save you over $400.00 vs. renting the same car at the airport and being gouged by some insane taxes and fees slapped on all who rent at the airport (including an absolutely hysterical 9.5% PRIVILEGE rental fee as stated on the Hertz website), who the heck wants to donate totally unnecessary $$$$$ to the politicians in Orlando?

Finally, will you really need a rental car for your entire stay?

I made a reservation yesterday with Dollar for a pick up at the Grosvenor a couple of days after we arrive and a drop off at the airport when we leave...total for a 10 day mid-size rental including taxes and fees was $236. That will give us a car for resort changes, shopping days, a grocery run after we move to OKW and for the return to the airport and we will just DME it to the BC on arrival unless something better turns up in the mean time.

Don't think there is a convienent Hertz office by WDW, and I decided on Dollar over Thrifty because Thrifty did not have a DTD location for pick up and that aloowed me to save about $100 (plus the advantage of an at airport return) Thanks for all of the suggestions

That's a HECK of a lot better than getting gouged at Orlando's airport.

Nicely done, Sara.

Try using Use Corporate Code oi1054 to receive special discounted rates, free unlimited mileage nationwide, roadside assistance and no drop off fees in select Florida locations when you rent from Dollar. Offer comes from Orlando Magicard.

So far it's given me the best deal for a Premium at $247 for 10/18-25. Their premiums are a Chrysler Pacifica. I have tried it with a minivan and for the suv's, but the rates are higher.

Thanks Mr Marv...

Maciec: The oi1054 is the code I used with Dollar and it was by far the best rate (except for the OCVB rate at Thrifty that was a few dollars/week cheaper, but no DTD location available so Dollar ended up being $100 less)
