What airfares have you usually found for travel near Christmas?

We are planning to take a surprise trip to WDW for Christmas, and I was wondering what prices people have found for travel near that time. We are going 12/17-12/24. We will be leaving from Detroit Metro or Flint Bishop.

I just want to see if airfare is astronomical compared to other times. I thought I remembered Spirit having a great sale this year for travel during that time.

I have been playing around with the airfare in early December (our real dates are 12/17-12/27)

I'm wondering how fast seats sell out. I'm nervous about booking so early, but worried about not getting seats when we want to fly, also

Bump I'm curious too because we're staying at Saratoga Springs Resort from 12/17-24 and I'm considering adding a night at All Star Movies if it will be cheaper, less hectic to fly home on 12/25.

I started looking for last christmas the previous September and was getting prices in the $400-$500 per person range. Outageous! I used frequent flyer miles, except that I had to use 50,000 miles on northwest. THe earlier you start looking the better, I think.

We flew airtran out of Flint last year we left on Thursday I think it was the 17 and we flew back on the 24 we paid $350 for the 2 of us. I didn't book until a couple of months before, I am glad I waited because they went on sale at that time. Just go to their website and sign up for their newsletter and it will give you advance notice of the sales. FYI Northwest was pretty close to the same price, but I liked the times that Airtran had better, and both of the flights were non-stop.

My bf and I flew on SWA this past 12/16/05 - 12/20/05. We each paid $49 each way! -Steph

DH and I got our airfare from Kansas City to MCO for 255.00 with all the taxes, etc for the 18th to 23rd of December. We booked in June. We flew Airtran. I remember they had a sale a few months before our trip, but they have a rebooking fee of 50.00 a ticket. We would have only saved about 30.00, so that would have not worked to reticket. We also got business class seats because the flight was oversold. When I pulled up the seat choices all that was left was business class to choose from. We were happy to have a comfy trip at no extra cost.

Keep checking on the Spirit website -- especially on a Tuesday. They will have high fares, but will discount for one days -- randomly! I have paid anywhere from $230 on Spirit to $350 on NW at Xmas. For this upcoming Easter trip, I checked Spirit daily for four months and it was $500 -- one Tuesday it was $225 and I booked it! NW never came down for Easter!

I am sure the prices will be a lot cheaper. Don't expect to get 200 R/T at that time of the year. Try other airports, and look at TPA. Good Luck

dvcguy, I'm aiming to prove you wrong LOL! I'm leaving for MCO on Dec. 24th from JFK or LGA, and I'm planning on paying $59 each way! It's a few days too early to book, but so far, the open dates go up to Dec. 19th at $59 each way. I'm crossing my fingers that it'll be that way this Friday morning when I log on at 12:01 AM to check out the fares. This is on Song. Yeah, I'm going to get the $59 fares! Woo hoo!

Right now Spirit has their fare listed as $250 per person 12/17-12/240. The first leg of the flight is listed as $89 and the last leg is $149.

So Aisling I'm with you. I hoping that I can at least get that last part of the trip down to $89. We'll see.

The Christmas Eve tickets are now open at Song. There are still several departure times out of LGA and JFK at $59 a ticket one way, which is great for Dec. 24th!

I got my tickets, $59 out of JFK! Now I have to wait until next week to check the return flights; we're coming home on NYE. If I get the $59 return, imagine...that'll be $120 for a RT ticket!

Spirit has my flights for $171 roundtrip. The flight coming home on Dec. 24th is a little later than I would like, but more time at Disney works for me.
