What age to stop having birthday parties?

I think 12 has been our cut-off. I have always set the budget and included my kids in the planning. In fact, it helps them understand better why we can't have the moonwalk, the ponies AND the rock band :rotfl:

Seriously, I give them a budget of $100. Out of that comes the cake, the favors, the entertainment and the gifts. I have one kid who is a party planner SUPREME. He can erally plan a shindig--but at a price! So the budget really reined him in. One year he elected to forgo the store-bought cake, the movie tickets for 6 friends, the Dominos pizza, and decided on a sleep-over with
all-night videos, homemade cake & ice cream sundaes. We allowed him to keep the extra, which he put toward a much wanted Gameboy.

DD, on the other hand, is all about the party. Give her $100, she'll spend every dime on her friends at a BuildA Bear party. :flower: This year she elected to take her best friend camping with us. We took their bikes and gave them free rein of the mountain(they had walkie-talkies and we know this area very well.) She had so much fun, we didn't even see her for the rest of the day. :cheer2:

I had big parties with friends until I was 9. After that, I had sleepovers with a few friends.

We'll have them as long as DS wants to, which I hope is a long, long, time. We're big partiers in my family!

DD didn't have a party for her 11th this year and probably won't next year. I may let her have one at 13 if she wants and then 16. We'll wait and see. But I have finished with the every year 10 kids at my house or spending a lot of $ elsewhere thing.

My last big party was for my 13th Birthday(about 100 kids). After that I only had a few friends/bf over or out to dinner. Two of my best friends did throw me an awesome surprise party for my 18th birthday though :)

We just had a party for DD for her 11th 2 weeks ago. I just told her that from now on she can have a few girlfriends over for a slumber/birthday party. of course we will still have cake with family forever. No matter how old the family member becomes we always have :cake:

I had parties up until I graduated high school, but since I was never a really popular girl anyway, the most I ever had was maybe about 7 friends. I like it best that way though. I loved planning my own birthday parties. And you can have a really fun party without spending tons of money...pizza, ice cream, and a movie is all you need. Decorations can be made on your own quite cheaply.

For my 16th birthday, my parents took my sis and I and 4 friends to a resturant called Bravo where the waiters sing. I worked there for a summer a few years later. :)

I still like to get together with friends for my birthday in less organized events.
