Sounds to me like 9 1/2 is the right age! :teeth:

I know, I bought her some tonight already. I just want to know what age is normal?????????? She is small for her age, I can't see her developing yet :confused3

My son is only 8 and needs it.

We use deoderant, not anti-persperant. We will wait a bit for that.

DD7 doesn't have any smell yet.

Ok, so 9 and a half may not be younger than most?

I have no idea what is normal...all I know is my poor son gets stinky when he sweats!!

my daughter puts it on every day at 6 1/2 though I don't think she needs it- she does it more from watching me do it....I don't mind her making it part of her everyday routine now so that when she actually needs it in a year or so she will already be used to putting it on and won't be one of the stinky kids that every class has...

I don't think there's a normal age. Whenever they start having an odor, they should start using it. My dd is 12 and has been using it for a few years now. They even sell deodorant aimed for teens. Never too early to start a good hygience regimen.

I gave my parents a hard time with this, I started everything,,,,,, at about 8 years old.
To me using deoderant meant that I couldnt be a kid anymore.
So for a couple of years I threw a fit and mostly got away without using it.
My poor parents had to have a little stinky kid:)

My 9 y.o. ds began wearing it a few months ago.

Also--Have her wash her armpits with an antibacterial soap like Dial. Only under her arms, as it will dry out the rest of her body. That seems to work with young kids.

I think your DD is at the right age to start wearing deodorant. I used to teach and believe me, when the SECOND graders would return from recess, half the class could have used a swipe :rotfl:

My dd will be 10 in July. She started using deodarant around 8- 3rd grade. She also is very small for her age but she sure can stink!

My DS10 doesn't "need" it yet, but he saw the older guys using it at camp last year and has decided he will also use it! Fine with me--at least he smells nice!!

Ever been in a 4th grade classroom at the end of the day in April or June........................yikes! Most of the kids at that age could use some kind of deodorant. I wish their parents recognized what you did and then did something about it!

WOW -- I read every post and I'm surprised. I'm surprised cuz I think it's young too. My 9 1/2 year old doesn't wear deod. either YET.

I too with the OP thought 8 or 9 is young. I guess I'm clueless.

4th grade isn't all that uncommon, usually by 5th grade they all need deodorant. Most of DD11's friends started using deodorant around age 9, give or take a year. Some kids start NEEDING deodorant in 1st grade, it just depends.

As far as developing, there really isn't anything you can do about that. 9 years old is about right for the start of puberty. Keep in mind though that it takes several years to go through puberty. Most of the girls in DD's class started wearing sports bras in 4th grade, about 3 of them actually needed one. In 5th grade, they pretty much all need a little something but they still don't have much. There are 2 girls in her class that need a real bra. DD's breast buds showed up about this time last year and they are about a centimeter bigger this year then last.

DS11 doesn't need deodorant yet, but he wears it on occasion. DS13 started needing deodorant around age 11.

My DS is 8 and needs it occasionally. He doesn't use it everyday yet....

Isn't it wierd the "growing up" stuff that tugs at a mom's heart?

My 8-year-old started wearing a few months ago. She insisted she needed it but I'd never noticed anything. :confused3 My oldest didn't start wearing it until she was around 10 or 11.
