What age is normal to start......

I know, I bought her some tonight already. I just want to know what age is normal?????????? She is small for her age, I can't see her developing yet :confused3

My dd is the same way...I need to put that on the list. We were in the car yesterday and she smelled her pits and gagged. She is also small & 9.
Stink knows no size, I guess!:rotfl:

Yep, 9 was the age my older two needed it, so I'll be watching closely with the other two. I thought it was young too but it has been said that kids are developing earlier than they used to? :confused3

My DD is 9 and does use deodorant. I guess it depends on the child. If you have an active child they definitely need it by age 9.

You guys have made me feel so much better!! Thanks. You're right it is weird what tugs at a mom's heart strings---this means she is growing up! :sad2: I did used to teach 4th grade and I DO remeber that smell coming in off the playground--not one that I miss! Peee ewwwwww!!!! She is in 3rd, so I thought we had a little time. Oh, well. Thanks for making me feel better---you guys are great! :wave2:

My youngest DS started wearing deoderant last year at 9. I can't remember when the other boy's started, but I think it was around the same age.

Last year - (when my son was 9) they had someone come into the school for "Hygeine Day" (no, it wasnt called this...but it should have been)

The kids got little sample toothpastes, hand lotion, and.... deodorant.

So, I think your child is right on time, being funky. :teeth:

My DD started using deodorant around the age of 8/9, too.
My friend's DD's 3rd grade teacher made this announcement to her class on the first day of school, "Your assignment tonight is to go home and tell your parents that you need to start using deodorant every day!"
I thought this was funny--but also a good way to let the kids know that it's okay to start using deodorant and that everyone will be expected to do so. :sunny:

My little skinny underdeveloped Benji just started wearing deoderant. He was so funny. He got all excited because now he "smells like a man"!

I love this!! What a great idea! Then, no one has to be embarassed because they do wear it, and no one has to be embarassed because they don't wear it. And everyone looks at it as normal. Great idea!!!

Don't worry... very normal! I remember older DD coming home from a skating party at almost 10...EWWWW! I almost died! At that point we bought some but she didn't really use it consistently until the next summer when I pushed the issue. DD10 just had her first EWWWW day and now she has some too.

Development doesn't necessarily come quickly after that...puberty takes awhile!

To get my girls to cooperate, I asked them if they've ever smelled yucky smelling kids after recess at school. Then I asked if THEY want to smell like that! :)

My DS has been wearing it since he was 8. He didn't really want to - but it was necessary.

DD didn't need it until she was 10. I guess she wasn't as active as her younger brother! :teeth:
