What age do you quit the stroller?

Just wondering at what age do you find you don't need the stroller anymore for your little ones at the parks? Debating investing in a double stroller.

Thanks!

my dd9 was 7 the last time we were in disney and she used the stroller but she is small for her age if you were to see her you would think she was about 7 now.

last fall we still got the double stroller for 4 and 6 year old, then the 9 year old would even take an occassional turn. I am a huge believer in the worth while investment of renting the strollers at Dis, I know it's pricey, but so worth it to not have to drag the kids around and for them to have a place to sit at parades and fireworks, shade, and even a cat nap if needed. The one's at Dis are like joggers if your not familiar and they accommodate big kids nicely. Have fun! Get a stroller!

I think it depends on the situation. Last year I bought a sit n stand for my dd (17 months at time) and ds (6 at the time.) If dd hadn't been there, then we wouldn't have brought anything for just ds, but since I was going to have to bring a stroller, I figured it'd be best to get one that ds could have a place to sit if he got tired, or if I needed to "put" him somewhere safe;) It worked great for us and my ds used it quite a bit last year. We brought it again this year, (dd-2 and ds-7) and we did use it a few times for ds, but not nearly as often. For us, next year we'll be just taking a single stroller for dd and ds will have to be a grown up:rotfl:

Never used it past 4 for any of the three. (size doesn't matter, all mine were small)

My kids are 5,7 and 9. I debated about a stoller before the trip for my 5 year old. We were part of a stoller swap that fell apart before we went on our trip in Sept. I decided not to bring a stroller and play it by ear. She did great without a stoller and she is a kid who is always asking to get picked up but she was fine at Disney. We ended up renting a stoller on the Friday of the trip because we were doing the halloween party and we would be out very late. I rented a double. The kids fought over the stoller all day. Next year no stoller.

We stopped using a stroller when my youngest was 3. During our trip this year however we really regretted not bringing it. He is 5 noe and not as easy to carry. He has chronic lung problems and cannot walk as far as other children and not get winded. We did alot of resting. I do not remember that with my older children because they do not have the same disability. Gauge it on your child's endurance level wether you bring a stroller.

Our oldest DD just turned 5 and we will be bringing a sit-n-stand for her and her little sister. To me it's simple mathematics, she takes about 3 times more steps then I do, so if she wants to sit then by golly she can sit:laughing:

I hate double strollers with a passion (just a disclaimer).

So... for our Februrary 2010 trip we will just be bringing our regular jogging stroller, which is a single. My eldest will be 2 1/2 for the trip and my youngest will be 6 months. I figure it will be there for the 2 1/2 year old if we absolutely need it (and I can wear the baby) but otherwise plan on her just walking and using it for the baby. When we were there last year (when my eldest was 18 months) we brought the stroller, but she never used it -- she is a big walker. Plus, strollers are for babies (per my eldest since we have indoctrinated her into giving up "her" stroller for the new baby.) :)

4 yrs old.We took her on her first trip last year and never needed one. We started a family walking program 6 months before the trip and she did fine.Granted, we only have one child so it is easier to slow down when she needed to( which believe it or not she didn't need to, we did though lol)

Just wanted to note that this is not correct. All of the Disney strollers are the hard plastic ones like you would rent at your local zoo. And when they replaced them (last year I think), even the doubles are rather small.

That said, we had planned to not rent a stroller for dd5. But as the time comes near, we are re-thinking this. I honestly just don't think she will have the stamina and she is a whiner when she's tired. She is too heavy for the umbrella type strollers and I don't want to lug around a jogging stroller so it looks like we will be renting from WDW. My cousin has 4 children and the 3 youngest will need strollers so we will probably rent 2 doubles for the 4 younger children and the 2 older boys (8-9) can take turns if there's an empty seat.

We went in August and my girls were 6 and 4. We used a double stroller the whole time. Rarely did they insist upon walking. It's like they know 1) we get around faster in a stroller and 2) they can chill out. We have a few trips coming up, during the last of which my older daughter will be 7. I fully intend to rent a stroller on that trip for them. I know that seems old, but it just works out so well for us in this situation. I, too, have seriously thought about investing in a good double stroller but hubby vetoed it, even a year ago. For all the money I've spent and will spend renting, I could have bought. Men just don't get it, I swear!

Am I reading correctly that your children are 4 and 14? Why would you get a double?

We wil lbring one till I can't possibly push her in one becuase of weight. LOL! When she was 2 she did alot of walking, at 3 and 4 she spent much more time riding...but the biggest perk to me is having a spot to store a bag with extra stuff in it. The ones you rent at Disney basically have no storage and are expensive. So we bring our own. I bought a cheaper one to take on trips and it has worked well. But if we go again next year I wil lbring our regualr one as she is just too heaver for the smaller, cheaper one now. It could work, but I just think it will be easier with the bigger one. We still bring it to other events too and she likes it. Each kid is different, but I know mine likes to sit some of the time. And again the storage for us is just an added perk. No locker rentals are needed then. We always bring her an extra change and sweatshirts along too, plus rain ponches and a few snacks, so the storage is invaluable to us!

My DD will be 5.5 when we go in Dec and we'll be taking a double umbrella stroller for her and her 3 yr old brother. My DD is the type that complains when we go to the mall about too much walking. She is like her mother - very uncoordinated and athletically challenged! Why walk when you can sit? :rotfl:

:lmao: Ok, yes, THAT would be a sight to see. Actually, I am planning a trip with friends who have 2 children. So I'm wondering if I can "offer up" my DD's stroller for my friend, and she just brings one, but I'm thinking we should invest in a second stroller down there (a double for her) and keep ours for our DD.

There's quite a bit of differences in ages according to all the posts (which is super awesome, thanks!) but I'm taking the advice and judging it based on her capabilities. She's a small 4 yr-old, and MK would wear her out. Anything that keeps in the parks longer is a good idea to me!

Thanks again to the WDW experienced moms and dads out there! :cheer2:

Oh yeah, what I mean by "offering up" our stroller is that ours is already down there.

And great point about having a place for storage. We usually go in January, so having warm clothes in the morning and being able to strip down and shove them in the bottom of a stroller is a huge plus. Can't forget that!
