What activities do you do at a graduation party?

Do you plan activities for a graduation party? We are having ds's party in a couple weeks. We have a pool, so if it's hot some people will be swimming. We can play music and I'll have decorations and balloons up. Should I have organized activities like games? We have a badminton set, frisbee, bocce ball, etc. The guest list is mostly people that are family friends. Most of Ds's friends are having their parties the same day or working as they have summer jobs. Wouldn't matter what weekend we planned it for, someone is always busy doing something else. I just don't want the non-swimmers to be bored.

Well unless it is a kindergarten graduation, then I don't think you need games or activities. Have music, snacks and chairs in seating groups so people can chat. You can also set up your dining room table with the cake DS Diploma and any other awards he received. Also you could put his kindergarten picture next to his senior portrait and everyone will love looking at the photos.

My friend does a cute trivia game about the graduate. She gives out candies for the answers - if you are correct you get smarties, if you're wrong, you get a dum dum lollipop.

Most of the graduation parties around here just have food although a few have music playing on a radio somewhere in the background. I've only been to one that had a game, it was at the local park and a group played kickball. I am located in Pennsylvania, close to Ohio.

What I've seen recently is people having a small photo album and blank cards that fit the pages. You are asked to write something to the graduate and insert it into the album. It makes a nice little keepsake.

I have never been to grad party with formal activities. That said, I have seen them with games in the yard, for people to play if they want. And we will probably put out the bocce and ladder ball at my sons party so people can play. But most people come and socialize, eat, look at the pictures and move on to the next party.

For mine, we had music, and my mom had the bocce ball and croquet sets set up in case anyone wanted to play. Other than that...it was mostly just social.

My daughter says the most fun graduation party she attended (from two years ago) was a pool party that also had a variety of board games. The kids swam, ate, and then played board games. Apples to apples seems to be one of the all time favorites. Now, I will tell you this was a bunch of brainy, nerdy kids, so that may play into the fun. :lmao:

We are hosting a graduation party next weekend. We are going to get out the Bocce ball set, have volleyball set up and also have corn hole out. If people want to play they can, but we aren't going to organize anything.

I wouldn't do structred/planned activites.

Just having music, the pool, and the few yard games you mentioned is perfect. As well as having snacks of some sort. :D

We are do a grad party this year for our daughter. We asked her what she would like as we did our son's 3 years ago. A few things that we will be doing is...

DJ- Kids can request songs they want played
Bounce house- always a hit from the young ones to grown ups
Kan Jam
Bocce
Pool

DS's party is next week. We are having it in our churches family life center. There is basket ball and volley ball inside and a playground for the kids right outside the door. WE are doing a picture/music DVD of DS life that we are showing. We might set out some uno cards or something but nothing else. WE will at some point cut his cake.

Question????- I know he will get some gifts....do you think he should open them there or later? I expect most will be cards with money.

We had my sisters graduation party last weekend. We had horseshoes, corn hole and another kind of game out for them to play. Then we also watched a movie outside. Everyone had a blast!!

Ok, DD16's graduation party is this Sunday.

I had no activities planned, but think I may do the trivia game. That sounds like fun! Thanks!

We had vollyball and basketball. Once we had eaten and it started getting dark, they set up the karoke machine and the highlight of the night was a huge bonfire. Everyone sat around the bonfire for hours, talking and laughing and remembering their high school days. Parents and kids. I still get teary thinking about it, we made wonderful memories that night and the kids absolutely loved it. We did smores, and had sparklers as well.
