What about the birth certificate/maiden name, driver's lic/married name issue?

With the more strict rulings on identification I was wondering if that has changed at all?

My birth certificate has my maiden name, but I haven't gone by that name in over 10 years now. Do I need my marriage license to show the change in my name?

When we last went, they did ask for proof of DW name change (marriage license).

I have a passport, will I still have to bring my marriage certificate? I'd rather leave it at home...?

If your passport is in your maiden name, you are safer to bring the license - make sure it's not the certificate issued by the church but the actual license issued by the state.

No, the passport is my married name. Then I should be ok?

Should be no problem then - Name on passport matches name on tickets = :D

Hello,

Beth I have a similar problem - we are going to get along great on the cruise. I have a passport in my maiden name and drivers license in my married name. DCL stated that I needed to bring my marriage license with me. <Phew, I thought I have to get the passport fixed.>

Hope that helps. Trick is now finding the license.

My birth certificate has my maiden name and drivers license married name- we sailed 1/02 and I didn't have a problem at all checking in. We had even moved since I had my license renewed so the address on the front was not even correct.

for years i carried a copy of my marriage cert

invariable in the stupidest situations  something would come up with my maiden name, a credit card, even after 5 years --- like my stupid bank, my checks were in both our names, but occasionally i would get hassled, motor vehicles where my car was in my married name, but no one @ DMV changed their records (and HOW is that ???) --- so i just solved it by carrying a xerox copy.

BETH --- copies should be available in the health dept in the town where u got married (in NJ), or you can ALWAYS get a copy from trenton --- http://www.state.nj.us/health/vital/vital.htm)

cin in NJ (13 yrs now and counting! :teeth: )

As long as the first name and birthdate match on your birth certificate and photo ID then you do not need a marriage license. :)

Thanks SC Minnie and Webmaster Michelle, I was starting to panic. I wouldn't begin to know where my marriage certificate is. :earsgirl:

Thanks for all the info! I carried my marriage license with me last time just to be on the safe side. I will probably stick one in with all my paperwork again.

Got the kid's birth certificates ready. DH got one of his from that vital check company. It's a copy, but it has the official raised seal. I have mine ready, but I might order another one since this one is pretty old and worn out.

If your passport is in your maiden name, you really should get an amendment. They'll type an amendment into one of the pages. If you don't do that, your passport is essentially useless to you at this point.
