What about families that can't meet the new mandate, by the time of their cruise.

I am requesting a full refund including insurance fees. I spoke to Disney, they told me to have the agent put in the request. It might be worth if for you to do so as well. just like us, you are not canceling for any reason/fault of your own.

let us know if they grant it to you! They definitely didn't make it seem like it was an option when i had to cancel...

Generally, insurance fees are not refundable if it is possible the insurance could have been used. For example, if you get auto insurance and 6 months later your car has a mechanical breakdown that makes it undriveable through no fault of yours, you don't get a refund for the insurance costs for those 6 months, even if you didn't make any claims.

If you had cancelled the cruise due to a health crisis or inability to travel due to adverse weather, you could have used the insurance to get a refund. Because you are cancelling due to someone in your group being ineligible to board, Disney is giving you a refund of your fare without going through the insurance, but that doesn't negate the fact that you could have benefited from the insurance under different circumstances.

It's a different situation when a cruise is cancelled by the cruise line and everyone's fares are refunded. In that case, no one could have used the cruise insurance for a refund because everyone received one, and it would make sense to refund insurance purchased solely for that cruise.

Almost everywhere in the US if you cancel an auto insurance policy early you're entitled to a refund of the unearned premiums.

I agree with the rest of what you said though. Disney may choose to accommodate as a service recovery measure, but you're not entitled to a refund of the travel insurance.

Reread their post. They said you could not get a refund for the 6 months premium PAST, not the unearned portion.

They mandated insurance. They should do something.

You could just have them get the J&J vaccine. Just one dose. Not sure if it is approved for 16 year old's though.

DC, partially due to FL is trying to have it both ways. DCL should have been recommending vaccine. DCL should have been telling customers vaccines will be required if any of the scheduled ports require it.

Today DCL should explicitly tell cruisers the Bahamian vaccine requirement might be extended. Virtually all people posting on this topic think an extension is likely.

JMO Disney should refund the insurance premium. At a minimum issue a shipboard credit in that amount for a future cruise.

But Disney isn't the insurance provider. They only offer it as a convenience. Refunds would have to be (if they would be offered at all) from the insurance provider.

Everyone has the option of getting their own, private, travel insurance, right?

Disney refunds insurance if they are the ones to cancel the cruise. In this situation, they should refund the insurance, too.
Agreed. This was unexpected and no fault of the customer. If things were normal I would only buy the cheapest medical third party insurance for a four night cruise. I bought through DCL this time because it was mandated and had to meet certain criteria. My cruise is not affected though, but if it was I would expect at least a discount or OBC on a future cruise.

Unfortunately you and everyone else with unvaccinated teens 12-18 caught in this have zero options. 18+ do with j&j.
I’m guessing the people that aren’t vaccinated aren’t for a reason. I’m not sure a cruise would be a reason too.
I agree with others take a land trip it’s so much easier.

Not getting vaccinated is 100% the fault of the customer. The only exception being kids that turn 12 just before their cruise date and can't possibly be vaccinated. Disney more than likely will refund the insurance as good will, but I doubt they would be required to contractually.

No, it's not the fault of the customer if that was not the policy at the time of booking. The policies on the Disney website were very clear. There was no vaccine mandate only a negative covid test.
