Sorry for the delay folks! It has been a little busy with Christmas coming as you all can understand.....I promise to get the reports done on a more timely basis!
Day 3 - December 5 - AK and MK
Cast of characters:
Me (36) - the trip planning, Disney fanatic and commando tourist. Multiple trips to Disneyworld since 1974.
DH (36) - the trip payer and fellow commando tourist. Never was a Disney fanatic, but loves his family and always enjoys our trips! Sixth trip to the World.
DD (8) alias "Lizzy lover" - Disney fanatic in the making. Loves to try new things, but not quite the thrill rider that we initially thought. Sixth trip to the World.
DD (6) alias "Tink lover" - Disney fanatic in the making as well. Huge fan of Mickey Mouse and major Tinkerbelle fan! Fifth trip to the World.
DDad (65) - Turned 65 the day before we left and the recipient of many surprises along the way! Secretly loves Disney. Multiple trips to the World since 1974.
DMom (62) - Loves to go to Disney with the grandkids. Found a new hobby on the trip...checking out the Resorts! Multiple trips to the World since 1974.
After two surprises yesterday, I decided to take a day off from them and give myself and my family a break.
Besides, I had a really nice one planned for our last day!
Today was scheduled to be our Animal Kingdom day. We hadn't been to AK in a few years as we have managed to exclude it from our last two trips. Now, it wasn't that we didn't like AK or anything. On a trip a few years back, I managed to drag the family all over a hot and crowded AK, so you can imagine the fond memories we had. All my fault on that one, so my goal for today was for a nice relaxing tour of AK. The goal was to soak up the atmosphere and to enjoy all the little details of the park.
We headed into AK shortly after opening at 9:00. The Christmas tree was really cool and I love how they decorated it with the animals. As soon as we got into the park, my dd the Lizzy lover spotted a leopard print Mickey headband. It was our mission the rest of the morning to get one for her and thankfully we did. They were everywhere so I wasn't too worried that we wouldn't find another one.
After enjoying the scenery in the front of the park, as well as marveling at the tree of life, we headed straight for Kilimanjaro Safari. It was less than a 5 minute wait and soon enough we were in our vehicle on the safari. There weren't as many animals on this ride as there were on our last ride, but it was still an amazing trip. I got some great pictures and we were all excited to see a baby elephant.
Once the safari ended, we headed over to Rafiki's Planet Watch. Cute train ride! We got some great pictures of the girls with Pocahontas, Stanley and Rafiki. We then roamed around looking at the vet hospital, food station and various exhibits. As we were walking, we came upon a CM holding a LIVE SNAKE! My family immediately went up to her and petted the snake. My kids were like, "Hey mom, come on! Pet the snake! It feels cool!" My response is "Uhm, NO WAY!" Now, I realize that the snake is harmless and it was certainly small, but there is no way that I was ever going to touch it. I have a HUGE HUGE snake phobia. "Uhm, where is the exit? I think I am going to faint!"
As an aside, we had a four foot snake in our garage this summer. I told my husband if it wasn't gone asap, I was selling the house!
Ok, sorry for the diversion about the snake. It was cool for my whole family. Well, cool for everyone except me!!! The kids also went to the petting zoo portion of RPW and had fun petting the sheeps, goats, etc.
It was soon time for some refueling as we were all getting very hungry. We decided to try Tusker House and it sure did not disappoint. Very yummy chicken there! Or was it snake? Just kidding....
We headed over to Maharjah Jungle Trek. It was really neat to see the bats and the tigers. We totally missed this area on our last trip and I was so glad that we explored it today. Btw, the weather was great today. Sunny and warm. No problems of being too hot or overcrowded today!
We wandered over to Dinoland and on the way saw how they were coming along with Expedition Everest. That looks like it will be one neat ride when they are done!
In Dinoland, we rode Triceratop Spin and Primeval Whirl a few times. The girls had their pictures taken with the Dinosaur and we roamed around looking at the carnival games. After that, it was off to Tarzan Rocks which was great. We all love the music from the movie and yeah, Tarzan did ROCK!
He certainly was easy on the eyes!!
After the show, we decided to call it a day at AK. We didn't leave before getting some ice cream and those Mickey leopard ears that my dd was eyeing all day. We never made it to Dinosaur, FOTLK or ITTBAB, but we had done those in the past. We also decided to leave stuff for other trips. Ya know, you've got to have a reason to come back! Our new motto is, "Save something for the next trip!"
