What A Shame

I could see where these mugs might have collectible value to someone who won't be back to that resort for a while. I have seen some wacky things on EBay related to Disney. Last week I saw a set of toiletries from the Grand Floridian on sale. I also saw a "virtual" Polynesian pin. Not a real pin you can wear, it is for the VMK game-and someone was selling it on EBay. I am not interested in that whole VMK thing so the thought of paying money for a pin you can't wear is waaaaaay beyond me.

I sold the mugs we got hot chocolate in at Fantasmic a few years ago. We didn't want them and someone else did. Although, I was very clear that these were NOT the refill-able mugs. I have no idea if the bidder was a collector or intended on taking them to their resort or whatever. I got my $5 and that's all that matters!

Thanks for reminding me....we're staying at the Beach Club in a couple of weeks and I have a mug from pool hopping there a couple of years ago. :thumbsup2

I would love to buy a couple of these but only to use at home. I used one of mine regularly until I accidently melted it on the stove.

My husband has lost several of our mugs - he keeps leaving them places. If I were especially attached to any of them, I might buy a replacement on ebay (cheaper than driving to Florida, after all).

Before my last WDW trip, a customer of mine from Australia asked me to get him some park maps - he was planning a trip, and you know that maps are impossible to get from Disney ahead of time. I told him he only needed to pay for postage, but he insisted on paying me for my time and trouble as well (and it was trouble, to keep those maps all pristine on the ride back!)

So I don't really mind those types of ebay sales - one of the things people are paying for is the convenience of getting something that would be very time consuming or difficult to get themselves.

I don't see what the big deal is w/ selling the mugs. I really doubt anyone buys them w/ the intention of bringing it to WDW to get some free drinks.
A co-worker of Dh's buys those mugs, she loves Disney and wants a mug from every resort.

The seller shouldn't be selling them saying "free drinks" IMO, to sell them as collectables OK, but they are saying here steal and thats wrong- again IMHO its all in your morals.

I am afraid my morality is not insulted by mug reuse.

I'm a DVC member and have Coke in my own refrigerator so that isn't a rationalization so I can do it myself. I just don't think it is that big a deal.

There was one person who was selling the video and dvds that Disney sends out for free too. I emailed them and informed them that I thought that was so wrong. Man did I ever get a nasty response. :rotfl2: That was to be expected. Funny thing is people where actually buying them. This scammer is/was making a small fortune with them. :sad2:

I have gotten to the point where almost nothing shocks me on e-Bay. If someone wants to buy an item that is available in a park or Disney store, fine! It's a free market. When the item description violates Disney rules then someone should speak up but beyond that anything goes.

Not everyone lives near a Disney store and many people never get to a park!

OP...you can always use the "ask seller a question" option on eBay and tell the seller what you think. :bitelip:

The sad thing is people will buy these, only to get to Disney and see they could have bought them there cheaper.

I know it's sad :(

I agree that maybe some people can't go and want to get the different maps each year. None of us know what really motivates people to buy these things.

Thanks though for pointing out that people are selling the resort mugs. I wouldn't mind picking up a couple one of these days (and no, not to reuse before any mug patrol persons get all flustered!)

What's wrong with selling them if people will buy them? No one is forcing anyone to buy these things.

And what business is it of yours that someone is selling them?

I'm surprised nobody linked to a stolen towel animal. You can usually find one or two of them.

Ebay is full of scams. But it also has some good stuff. If you don't do your research and get caught in the hype of bidding, you'll get taken.

1. Always, watch 3 or 4 auctions of the item you want before bidding on one. See what they actually went for.
2 Always insist on a minimum of 98% positive feedback.
3 Always read the record. Much feedback is mutually withdrawn. So merely glancing at the percentage does no good.
4 Note that in most situations, the seller will wait until you give them a positive before they give you one. So negatives usually lead to mutual retaliation. When you see a negative see the seller's response as well as the comments on the buyer's feedback. If you see things like Buyer is a psycho or something like that, hesitate to do business with that seller even if they're over 98% positive. That tells you a seller is rather unprofessional in solving problems.
5. Have a price in mind and don't go over it. If you get outbid, you simply got outbid. Some take being outbid as losing and getting the item as winning. Try not to think of it that way. Don't make a maximum bid over your maximum just to protect yourself from a sniper.

We took some furniture to goodwill a couple of weeks ago, and while unloading my van we looked around in the store and I found about 4 Disney mugs, 2 from the all star movies and 2 from the pop century, also 4 of the mc donalds glasses from years ago, I paid like $5.00 for everything, but I just like to collect disney stuff, not to sell them.

The best is the WDW planning videos that anyone can get for free, and people auction them off! :rotfl: :lmao:
