What a pretty ring! Thank you! It's Grandma!

If my children even so much as THINK about turning me into a pair of earrings, I will haunt them for the rest of their days.

Ahhh!! That creeps me out like you can't believe!! Can you imagine looking at your ring every day thinking "yeah, that's grandma sitting on my finger." WEIRD!!!

*shudder*

creepy creepy creepy!!

I cant even imagine this. I saw it a couple of weeks ago and just thought "how gross is that???"

I heard about this company years ago...but it is too darn expensive!!!

So far, nobody's ordered more than 11 diamonds, said Dean VandenBiesen, vice president of operations for LifeGem, which uses super-hot ovens to transform ashes to graphite and then presses the stone into blue and yellow diamonds that retail for anywhere from 2,700 to 20,000 dollars.

My son's best friend's parents were going to have this done.. (I don't know if they did). Their son died at the age of 18 due to a heart problem.

At first I found it a little strange - but then as time went on I realized it was a way to keep him with them. It was tough on all of us - David passed away in January before he and my son were to graduate in May. (This was a few years ago)

When we went to the ash scattering ceremony his mom and I kept some of the ashes back for her to have the stones made...

I think everyone grieves differently - for their family it made sense. I have NO IDEA how I would react...

I guess I am one of the few not creeped out by that. I used to wear a locket with a lock of my mom's hair in it at all times. Kind of the same idea to me :)

THEY DID THIS ON THE SHOW "THE FAMILY PLOT"
RICK THE OWNERS SON HAD DIED AND HE TOOK SOME OF HIS ASHES AND HAD A PAIR OF EARRINGS MADE FOR HIS EX WIFE OUR DAUGHTER ONE HE ALSO HAD SOMETHING ELSE MADE CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS THOE ...

I TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT IF SOMETHING HAPPEN TO MY KIDS I WOULD WANT TO DO THIS THAT WAY I COULD LOOK DOWN AT THE RING A FEEL THERE PRESENCES WITH ME AT ALL TIMES. HE THINKS I'M CRAZY

My only concern would be how someone would feel if the stone was lost or stolen. I think it would just reopen the grieving process. And I have to admit that I find it a little creepy.

I am in the minority here too. I am not creeped out by this and in fact think it is kind of cool. I would probably consider it if it wasn't soooo expensive.

I just cannot imagine doing this myself, but if folks find it comforting, then that's fine for them.

Why is it that I can see buying a special piece of jewelry with my parents' estate money to remember them by, but I just can't see myself incorporating their actual ASHES into that piece of jewelry?

Really when you think about it.. carrying about links of hair was common years ago! You're right - it's definately a very similiar thing! I think it's a matter of keeping a loved one close...

I am not knocking someone else for wanting this, but it gives me the creeps. I am not even sure why - it just seem strange to me.

I can top this story with one that my SIL did.

She took my FIL's (also her FIL) gold from his TEETH and had a ring made! :faint:

Ten years later and I am still horrified over this action, as is my poor husband!

::yes:: ::yes::

Aaahhh, my mother's ultimate revenge. She was the queen of second-hand shopping. Why buy something nice, new and stylish when you could find last season's half price? I can just here her now - "I know you always wanted a real diamond ring, but it's so expensive - here, just use me, it'll be just as nice and no one will ever know."
!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, if I didn't already have a plan of being smuggled into Magic Kingdom and getting dumped into the moat around the castle....I'd go for it!
