I still have a long way to go- but here is last years 'best' dance recital picture- Pre-DSLR Point & Shoot Jones- Nothing on the stage was even close to this good.

Nice stuff, Jeff, as usual. Know you are proud of your little ballerina (and your D50!).

Thanks all- Here is one more. I actually got this one printed 20" x 30" and gave it to her. ($12 from Sams Club :) )

Nice improvement. :thumbsup2 All the dance shots are great. I considered these some of the hardest shots to get.:thumbsup2

Those are really great shots!

I have yet to shoot a recital. DD's first one is this friday. If I can get half as good as yours I will be happy.

Good work - this would be a good example for the "why a DSLR" explanation that we often make. :teeth: A fast 100/105mm or 135mm lens is high on my wish list.

Bingo! Can't get that kind of shot with a PnS, even a high-end one.

Wow - these are fantastic Jeff. You give me hope. Right now I am so frustrated because I am trying to progress from full auto to manual and my shots just stink!:sad2:

I am manual mode challenged....:scared1:

Well done Jeff!!

My daughter has been dancing for years and it's a real challenge to get a great shot of the kids. Nice capture!!

Great shots Jeff! Thanks for sharing! :thumbsup2

The only bad thing when you post such great shots is "my lens envy grows strong" :confused3

I especially liked the one you did up for the poster. It is a world of difference from the P&S, isn't it?

You shouldn't try to go from Auto to Manual... go to Program first (which is basically Auto with more control), then play a little with Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority. Manual is fairly specialized, few people spend much time with it, it's only really helpful for specific situations, and it will definitely be frustrating if you haven't spent some good time in one of the Priority modes first so that you've had a chance to understand how those work.

Good luck!

Thanks - I'll try Program and forge ahead!
