What a budget busting summer!

I was going to the Pittsburgh airport to pick up my daughter. My car broke down 1/2 hour from the airport.

$200 to tow it back home.

$1556. 85 to fix.

Within the week my son's car broke down as did my daughter's. Plus paying three college tuitions (daughter's, son's, and mine) along with their room and board is killing us. When we went to Disney is June, we were in great shape. Now I kind of regret spending the money (just kind of, we had a great time!) The only comfort is I was determined not to use the charge card, and I didn't.

This whole year has been that way.

My father has been in and out of the hospital since Jan and they live 6 hours away.

Dogs and cat are getting older - bigger vet bills, plus some unexpected problems with all 3 animals.

DH & I have had some health things this summer - adds up quickly!

And, a myriad of little and bigger problems in the house from a leaking dishwasher water line that leaked under the floor into the laundry room to a leak in the bathroom. Water is not always your friend!

Well lets see...........my buget buster was......we have a rental property...

the tenant has not paid rent since June $1875.00

Paid to evict her $300.00

She TOTALLY DESTROYED MY HOME $6000.00 in damages

I don't understand how someone can ruin someone's property. Had to recarpet the whole house. Holes in walls.......kitchen cabinets damaged....screens on every window damages....storm door busted.....Garage door busted.....two bedroom doors busted......pool pump left out last winter, so that was destroyed........dog DOO DOO everywhere......totally destroyed my property on top of not paying to live there.

Did anyone else have a really rough summer, $$ wise?? My goodness, so many things popped up!!

Car repairs- $550
Air Conditioner- $130
Eye Doctor- $600

among other things....

:sad2:

YES!
Just this last month: 700.00 to get a clunker car running for a back-up, we bought an almost new car, our tub rusted through (:scared1:) and so we had to get a new tub, had plumbers install and now we need to tile and paint. Oh yes and the dentist will run about 1,800. ladiladilaaa.

I don't know if I feel better to have such fine company, or worse that we are all suffering!!!

I had...

New tires - $870
Four fillings - $300 (AFTER insurance)
Wisdom teeth removed - $1200 (AFTER insurance)
(FYI - I take EXCELLENT care of my teeth... good lord and THANK GOD for insurance)
New washer and dryer - $1600
A/C broke - $125 to AC guy, $125 to electrician... still need AC guy to come back and and actually install part (probably another $200 - I don't think I'm going to do it this year)
Vet bill - $325
Gutters cleaned and re-tacked to house - $225

This was the first year I really had a great savings account... it is SO GONE at this point, and I am slowly, slowly building it back up.

Oh, there's more... my dishwasher stopped working - I'm just doing without, like the A/C... my fridge stopped working in Jan and had to have that fixed... my garage door opener isn't currently working... it just doesn't stop.

However, I have a paid for, free dining trip to Disney at the end of Sept. It's probably foolish to have spent the money on it, but I already had the AP, and everything else TOTAL was $610. Basically, I'm at the point where I think I have to go for my own mental health!!!

Plus! It's Food and Wine Fest!!

Good luck, everyone. Really, while money is necessary, it's not everything. The old saying... you can't take it with you... so true.

ugh budget busting is for sure and to think I actually had my credit cards paid off before this...:scared:

Car work (1000)
Vet bills (300)
Dental work (2000)

DH decides to go on a budget mini-vacation with youngest two DS. Not too bad $180 to rent a cottage in NH for 4 days plus $100 for storyland plus food (nah, can't count that he cooked in the cottage - so it cost what it would have at home) plus a trip up Mt. Washington $10 (he went the budget way and drove - Hah!) then the budget buster - the trip DOWN Mt. Washington - why is this the budget buster - because it ruined my car's brakes. 4 brake pads and two rotors later the cost of that budget trip to NH ballooned by another $410. Next time DH take the cog railway - it will save us $300 :sad2:.

DD medical...over $6000 and counting
4 ill health parents...this year alone over 14,000 and now my dad is hospitalized again, air-fare and penalties ..don't even want to add them up
van brakes $550
Drivers ed penalties for having to reschedule DS after the "grace period" $70
DS braces..$1500 OOP and 125 p month

those are where the $$$ went, when it should have gone to the roof, windows, and replace carpet. Yep, had 25,000 set aside for those repairs,,,*poof* gone, and medical still on going and no end in site on parents issues/cost.

me thinks a bigger boat is neeeded!

Had to buy a new [to us] VAN a few days before our already planned and paid for vacation.....

OUCH.

This after deciding to replace the roof [duct tape over holes stopped cutting it! :lmao:] this Spring not knowing the van would die...we planned for the van to make it 2 more years...

Oh and a week before we bought the van I hit a curb hard and had to spend $400 on new tire and axle!! Money down drain there...

$27K.....

Oh and I just spend $176 on dentist...need to go back in a month to spend about same!!!

Darn teeth!!
