What’s your guess on AP return date?

That’s a good point. I still will go, but I might not spend as many days in the park without an AP. We have BooBash tickets one night, for example. We may just do that whereas we’d go during the day if we had an AP.

That's what we are going to do. We stay at the Beach Club DVC and when we had the annual pass there were many days we would only visit EPCOT in the evening for the entertainment and to try a few items from the Wine & Food booths. We will miss this but will look at it as a way to get out and see other places. Orginaly we were just going to uber but have decided to rent a car (not cheap right now).

We also do not qualify for a recovery pass. Our passes expired in September 2019. I've been making and canceling DVC reservations for months with the hopes that APs will return. We won't go without them. We ended up purchasing Universal APs and will sit Disney out this year.

Ours expired Dec 2019. I have made and cancelled countless trips. Now we are in crunch mode to not lose a handful of points.

Our DD19 just went for 3 days with a friend and her 2 day hopper was $350 or something like that. That is seriously insane.

I have no problem forking over $ for tix for a long trip if need be, but we tend to take shorter trips, so it can be $1K for 6 park days. I see a lot of comments about AP holders as if all of them are "getting into the parks all year for free" lol. I am just trying to get 2 trips with a small number of park days about 11 months apart for (still more than) the price of someone who is going for 10 straight days.

Their ticket structure sucks. How I miss the 10 day no exp tix. I miss those more than APs.

DH and I might go next month for a few days. We will do Boo Bash and maybe Universal or use just one day base ticket we already have from a previous trip. Our plan is to keep our family Jan 2022 trip, but without an AP, whatever comes after will be DVC stay with Universal parks.

I just added on a small DVC contract - feeling hopeful APs return. If they don't, I probably made a mistake as we will have a hard time using the points going forward.

Yep. We stay BWV and often enter Epcot only to eat meals / snack/ drink. We will miss that and I hope Disney misses our $, but I doubt it. lol

I am hoping soon I bought a ticket to reserve a day but really want to buy Gold AP.... I have two trips planned for 2022 and it would save us money to have AP.

FWIW - I'm in the same boat - November trip for 15 days. What I've done is bought 10 days worth of tickets and made park reservations for those 10 days, since that's the cutoff where buying more tickets exceeds the theoretical price of the AP. I'm watching the park res site regularly and if parks start to fill, I guess I'll have to dive on the extra tickets. Otherwise, I'm hoping APs return (at least for DVC members) before I have to do that

yeah, and you hope they allow you to apply the credit. That was always true in the past, but what about now?

They are currently allowing people who qualify for the recovery offer to apply the cost of tickets already purchased to the AP. Between that and past practices, that part is a safe bet for me.

Also, isn't it basically a ticket upgrade? I don't see Disney doing away with ticket upgrades.

We were able to apply our 6 day park hopper tickets toward the recovery of our AP's in May. I was so thankful since we have another trip planned in October. We popped in Guest Services at DS to see if recovery was a possibility, and we were pleasantly surprised when she yes.

I have zero worries that they will discontinue ticket upgrades. This year, I had to buy my tickets over the phone (4 hour wait) because I was recovering 1.5-year old tickets I purchased pre-COVID. I had no problems. When I asked the ticket rep, they even suggested the strategy and believe that Disney has the intention of continuing to honor the upgrade.

But the other part everyone/everything has been clear about over the phone and in print is that they won't refund the excess - so if I pay $1500 for tickets and then upgrade to a DVC-discounted annual pass of $975 - I won't get that extra $525 back. Thus the painful challenge. Unless anyone on here has a different understanding...?

Fortunately, park capacity continues to increase and I don't have any worries about not getting in the parks now so I'm comfortable waiting until August to see if APs are coming back.

You have it correct in that you would not get the refund.

So, you have to balance getting tickets and cost of AP to be sure you are close but not over

If they still continue them really wondering if they will continue the monthly payment plan for FL residents. With DL getting away from them period it makes me wonder what is going to drop for FL if/when they do come back.

Yes, but consider this: Ticket A costs $700, Ticket B costs $600. When APs come back, you can upgrade Ticket A to an AP, and use the AP in place of Ticket B's travel dates. Then you have the value of Ticket B to use towards a future ticket purchase... i.e. the following year's APs.

That might not make sense in your situation, but it is something I wanted to mention. We bought tickets for an October 2020 stay because our extended APs were due to expire literally a week before we got there. Then they announced the 1-month extension for expired APs, so our APs would then cover the stay. We called Disney Ticketing to 'deactivate' the previously purchased tickets, and we've had that credit to use towards new tickets since then.

Ditto to this. I have about 17 days left (stocked up a bit right when they were discontinued). We get the gold APs now but the non expiring park hoppers have been really handy... Especially early in the covid reopening since they let me book advance park reservations for all those days.
