What’s up with Pirates LL?

Does anyone know what’s going on with pirates? It looks like lightning lanes were not available all day yesterday and so far today. I know they said all along that pirates having a lightning lane might be temporary, but on the app it just says “multipass experience not currently offered” (as if it were sold out, which it obviously is not) rather than just not having that line, like with the rides that don’t have lightning lanes.

I used it on Wednesday...but I know thats not helping you today...😢
It is so frustrating when they change things with little or no notice...

And we got Premier Pass for Friday, and it’s listed as still being included there, when I click on “see included attractions”. Very weird that there’s no regular LL available still.

One Disney blog site was reporting that Disney deliberately took Pirates off the lightning lane this weekend and this "trial" was going to continue through Monday, April 14. Since I expect this is a very busy spring break weekend at the parks, maybe this is an experiment to see how things run if they finally remove Pirates from lightning lane as they promised they would. I'm skeptical of the promise though since the infrastructure is built and they would in general rather have more things to advertise as available on lightning lane.

You know, there's a whole bunch of us who don't read blogs, heck, I couldn't even find time to read the DISBoard while there! It is just so frustrating to get to the park and find out stuff like this.

And one other complaint...how do they. RUN OUT OF LLs? People pay a premium for this service ($36) only to be told at 7:00 pm there were no more return times available both for Monsters Inc and Soarin'...how is this possible? There is something wrong with their system and analytics. I basically ended up using it for about half a dozen rides. It upset me but I really feel sorry for those with a family who paid for it...that's a lotta cheddar cheese as Rocket would say.

Wonder if it was just a busy day? I've been monitoring LL availability for my families upcoming trip next month and DCA tends to have rides sell out fast.

I just hope it's not like Disney World where you get lucky to get 3 rides with LL and that's it. Could be a way to get people to buy Premier pass.

They run out because only a certain number of LL's can be sold or it would defeat the purpose of a LL! If they offered unlimited LL's times, then the LL line would be as long as the standby line and the standby line would probably never move (slight exaggeration). Guessing you've never tried the multi pass at WDW...

Is there something special about Pirates at DL? On and off again with the LLs? Am I missing something?

Multi-Pass does not guarantee you can get LL to every single attraction. If getting an LL to every available attraction is a priority, then buy Lightning Lane Premier Pass.

They originally added it to the LL selections when the Haunted Mansion went down for its extended rehab.

Pirates was a temporary LL. Most of us thought it would go away when HM and Splash/Tiana's opened. But IASW is closed so maybe they kept it on for longer. IASW should be opening relatively soon so maybe they are testing taking away the Pirates LL.

I have also heard on Fresh Baked that it's a test run. While watching the video, Disney had brought back the mix point b/w standby and LL away from the building entrance down by the ramp. I often use LL and seeing that would have chapped my hide had I been at the park. I strongly prefer that Pirates be standby only, but if they're going to have LL, they shouldn't diminish its advantage like this.

Our experience this weekend was that Pirates was only offered when another ride went down and the LL changed to a multi-experience one. Pirates was one of the alternate attractions offered.

Here’s hoping it is removed permanently. Even back in the Fastpass days it was determined that Pirates was better without it and removed.
Honestly same with Haunted Mansion. The line may look long but due to high capacity it [used to] never stop moving.

I loved the time when Nightmare Before Christmas was removed and Mansion would go back to standby only no FastPass, could ride a lot. Sadly I assume Disney wants to keep a certain number of attractions on LL to make it seem worth it for purchase/upsell.

I would add Small World, Monsters Inc., and Little Mermaid to the attractions that do not need LL. All of these attractions never had lines more than about 20 minutes and now are double that because of LL.

Exactly!!

It's annoying to see Monsters or Mermaid at 30 to 60+ minutes when literally they'd never be over 15 minutes with full queue. :( :earsboy:

SM Holiday I will say I'm happy it has LL so I can get on it at night in under an hour

Also I saw a video saying they turned Pirates LL off for a few days to test and see how it went....no idea how it went and we will see if they keep it or not

Pirates does not need it but I buy LL so also...I'm not upset its on there either because most days you can get on it without a line easier then HM which now HM has a line by 9 AM every day
