Currently Kona Cafe, Capt. Cook's, Tambu Lounge, Pinapple Lanai, the main pool bar, and the shops are all open. 'Ohana, Trader Sam's and the Oasis bar & grill are closed.
There has been no word if anything currently open will close, but they have also not specifically said what work in the GCH they will actually be doing. If, as I suspect, that work is limited primarily to the monorail station and replacement of furniture, carpeting, artwork and signage to match the new look of the refurbished rooms, then I would not expect much need for closures of anything. Perhaps brief 1-2 day closures of certain entrances, but that's about all. The refurb of the rooms is what is scheduled thru summer of 2021. I don't read the announcement to say the work at the GCH will take that long. In fact, we've already heard the CMs at the Poly are saying the monorail will be stopping at Poly again by the first of the year. Of course, that doesn't mean that all work in the GCH would be complete. But remember, back in 2015(?) When they did a very major redo of the GCH, shops and restaurants were not closed.
Just my take on it - I could be wrong. We have a family trip scheduled in December (
DVC), and have no plans to change location. I just don't think it's going to be that big of a deal.
