Family dinner tonight instead of lunch (DS had to go to work and DD is at a sports bar watching Apple Cup), so they will be here later and we're ordering from Red Robin
I’m a terrible mother . At 4:00 am, and I felt like waking son up with “Can we go now? Can we go now?” Role reversal is so much fun.
First stop: SuperDuper Weiner, exit 24, I-95N, for a hot dog. This was a must stop place on the road to our summer vacation spots. Also a favorite of the man’s who never met a hot dog he didn’t like. Decided to go to the Thimble Islands next just because we always promised we stop there next trip and never did, lol. Had a nice cup of RI clam chowder followed by steamed clams at Dockside Grill in Branford. Son opted for a double order of fried clam strips and a green salad. I stole at least 2 strips from him..oops.
Traveled further north for a bit to visit Hammonassett State Park which son didn’t remember though his daughter had been many times. Couldn’t walk in the sand (demn this wheelchair!) but the air felt and smelt good and of course chilling with son was enjoyable. Ran into a fellow camper and filled them in on what happened in the missing years. Surprised to see them so late in the season but yes we are all getting old and they are now retired too.
We tussled with the idea of traveling further north and crashing at a hotel but son wanted to see his godfather in Westport so we turned south only to find out he wasn’t home so we continued into NYC.
Oh right, we picked up some to go lobster rolls at Lobster Landing in Clinton with a bottle of Foxon Park white birch and that’s tonight’s dinner .
Went to El Saltos for Mexican food. So much better and so much cheaper than San Angel in Epcot, but nothing beats eating next to that Temple and volcano. Pretty sad that everytime I eat Mexican I think about Epcot lol
We went out tonight with some friends. I had bacon wrapped scallops over fried spinach with an orange sauce and a bowl of seafood chowder. Those scallops were the things dreams are made of
Son will be leaving the states soon so we’re doing a countdown of meals he’s gotta have. Right now he’s on the Lower East Side picking up deli food from a place called Katz’s. I ordered a brisket of beef on rye with a full compliment of pickles. If they have it, I want a Manhattan Special (espresso soda) and Dr. Brown’s cel-ray soda. No idea what he’s going to order since he kept going back and forth between pastrami and corned beef; maybe he’ll get a half and half? Of course he’ll get French fries to prove he’s American
My granddaughter's fiance has never had homemade soup, so I am making a pot of chicken noodle soup for dinner with rolls and butter and ice cream for dessert.

Just got my second Shingles vaccine this morning so not sure how I will be feeling later so I planned ahead. Keeping it easy with Costco’s Chicken Pot Pie. Never had it before and seemed like a perfect time to try it. This thing is massive I will say.

Hope you have a crew joining you for dinner, massive for sure. that the vax doesn't drag you down too much. I was thrilled when it was finally available, but it definitely wasn't like any other vaccine for me. Still much better than getting Shingles, that's for sure.
I've got a flank steak marinating for grilling tonight and a nice butternut squash and probably a quick salad on the side.
