Leftovers. We had a pot luck at work today and I brought a big sandwich on a round braided bread. I pre-cut the sandwich sections so people wouldn't be mauling it. There are 6 sections left (it's an Italian) so we'll have that, leftover hot dogs from a couple of nights ago, corn on the cob, and watermelon. It's kind of a catch-all, but neither DH nor DD will be home until after 8 and the resident 8 year old needs to eat before then; he might even be in bed by the time they get home, so leftovers it is.
I made a tuna casserole last night with peas no less.
The idea of it made son laugh at all he’d missed and trust me, I laughed too.
Growing up he refused to eat fish so the meal is just one of him playing catch-up.
Made a mini plum torte and that was our dessert.
It’s our last night of vacation and we are planning to get on the road around 5 tomorrow morning so we did a late lunch so we can start packing the car. I had cream of crab soup (it’s amazing we’ve been back twice) and coconut shrimp over a mango salsa.
Was coerced (willingly ) to eating out tonight. So some for him and some for me, a nice evening of feasting the eyes at the Whitney Museum first and then dinner.
I'm going to make a semi-homemade pizza for the first times in many years. (I say semi-homemade, because I'm buying a premade crust & pizza sauce.) Toppings will be my favorite pizza toppings. Proscuitto, arugula, fresh mozzarella & parmesan shavings.
@tarheelmjfan you are giving me ideas! A local market is selling pizza dough for 99 cents a bag this week and was thinking to let it go (carbs) till you posted. Blaming you if I do buy it
Sigh-ish, son’s gone and as Hall and Oates said “I gotta learn how to take it…”
It was nice having the kids whirlwind thru but now calmer and quieter days are ahead.
Last night, son and I did the town up. Went to a members’ preview and saw an interactive exhibit based on the life and works of Alvin Ailey. Think it’s going to be one of those blockbuster shows so glad I saw it early.
Then we we slowly meandered over to COQODAQ and had a giggly old time munching on Korean lacquered fried chicken, sliced daikon and champagne. Since I couldn’t have a meal with no green veggie, added on a Cesar’s salad and son had chicken nuggets and caviar as an app. Too “the end is near and only in NYC ” freaking funny.
After we stopped by the Hi-Line and he marveled at how much Manhattan had changed. Around 2:00 am, an Uber took us back home with leftovers in hand. Which I’m eating now minus the chicky nuggets; supplied my own Champagne which he graciously opened for me before he left. Good child!
We spent the day working on DD's house so tonight was leftovers, either turkey noodle casserole from Thursday, or last night's soup that DD made... sun dried tomatoes, red wine, spinach, carrots, celery, onion, chicken, pasta... it was delicious!
We had chicken strips....me Real Good, DH Buffalo.
Salad and other bits of things in the fridge.
We leave tomorrow for a cruise, so cleaning out the fridge.
Ice cream for dessert.
We made it back from vacation, the drive took about 8 hours which wasn’t awful. I unpacked and did some cleaning and spent time with the cats who are now Velcro cats we have no food in the house and I didn’t want to cook so we grabbed Chinese takeout.
