What’s for Dinner Tonight?

@ronandannette - which food delivery service are you using? We've tried Blue Apron and Hello Fresh in the past.

It was a good way to try new things. I still make a few of the dishes from each.
We're in Canada and there's a number of them; I rotate around to use the promotional deals. We do have Hello Fresh and that's what I had delivered most recently. There's also Chef's Plate and Good Food, and a new one I just got ads for, Fresh Prep.

Has anyone tried places like misfits market? If so can you explain how they work (do you pick items or get a box of mystery items). Do they have things other than produce ? how’s the quality?

Misfits market

:thumbsup2 i pulled out the last container of christmas pies. dh got the lemon creme while i enjoyed the pecan (love sorbet-best thing for acidy stomach).
I’m sitting in the house staring at a bag of lemons I bought on a sort of whim thinking how lovely it would be to make meringue lemon pots de creme which is a fancy way of saying lemon meringue pie without the crust 👍🏾
Last night I tried a new recipe for Spinach & Ricotta stuffed shells and it was delicious
What kind of sauce did you serve with them? Red, white or something else?
Stuffed shells are one of my prep and freeze staples 😎.

It’s snowing and of course the temperature dropped. This does not bode well for tomorrow’s brunch celebrating the Asian Lunar New Year. Invited two Long Islanders, my sister and her hub from Westchester, the pseudo hermit from the UWS and a Midtown friend dependent on senior access transport. Right this moment, without looking at the weather report I’m guessing at least half of them will-send their excuses. Be nice to be wrong but I know my peoples and their innate dislike of traveling to the Bronx, 🤣. Oh well going into the kitchen anyway since if I cook the full menu I’ll have yummy leftovers for sometime to come. Yep, I’m going to dare the gods and go ahead with my plans.

The dishes are turnip cake, shrimp and pork wonton, steamed or in a Mandarin noodle soup, soy braised Cornish hens, cucumber stir fry, and sautéed green beans. One of my guests is supposed to bring pancit but if she’s a no show, I’ll just serve white rice. For dessert, it’s a frozen ginger cream.

if i lived in canada i would likely subsist almost entirely on mitchell's soup products. I LOVE THEM!!!

;) Careful what you wish for. Before our endless reno, I thought I could be perfectly happy eating cereal and sandwiches full-time. Turns out I wasn't.

Last night was another free for all. I have wfh for 4 years now, but I had to go in for the last 2 days for GIANT in person meetings...like 1000 people plus meetings. And I was SPENT. Too much socializing and stimulation for my introverted brain.

So, kid had tuna salad with the leftover noodles from the chicken salad.
Husband ate chili from Sunday, garlic bread from Monday, rest of the chicken salad
I had 3 mini low carb tortillas with a tablespoon of refried black beans on each. White cheddar, cilantro, fresh jalapeno. Then some more pesto-soaked green beans on the side.

Tonight we are meeting some friends at a Mexican place "up north", at a halfway point between our houses.
LOL, I live "up north" in Minnesota. Every time you say that I wonder where you mean? North Minneapolis or No. Fargo?

Getting a break from cooking tonight and going out to eat. A place in Austin we’ve been going to since our courting days in our twenties a long, longggg time ago.

Best spinach artichoke dip in town and a very strong margarita in on the menu.

@NYCgrrl - I used a red sauce. I never thought to use an Alfredo sauce. I may try this the next time I make it ::yes::

@ronandannette - We haven’t tried a meal service. I have friends that use it and really enjoy it. As of now, it wouldn’t work for me because I like having enough food for leftovers. I love leftover day - it’s nice knowing that I don’t have to rush home to cook 🙂

I recall you live near-ish Duluth! We are in the cities, so we usually meet our friends in Hinckley, it's smack between us and our friends.

Last night was North Branch, however. 😁

Didn’t feel like cooking for me so emptied the bin of fruit, grabbed some pate, a plate of salad greens and called it dinner.

All but the hermit and my sister surprisingly confirmed for tomorrow so am defrosting the turnip cake and made the braising liquid for the poultry. The wontons will stay frozen until Sunday when I’ll decide how to cook them. The veggie dishes are prepped already so just some fast cooking and they are done.

love the stuff-i make the olive garden version. recently we went to a pizza place and they had a pizza make out of the dip     so freaking good!

tonight for us was pork chops, home canned apple sauce and trader joes mushroom risotto. there's enough for leftovers tomorrow night so we are set there. monday my oldest comes over and we will be making loads of stuffed meatballs to freeze.

I'm not really craving anything and don't feel like cooking so I'll probably just grab something from somewhere local.

The brunch went nicely and the last guests just left about 30 minutes ago and graciously took the garbage with them, lol.
Decided to use the pork shrimp wonton in the Mandarin noodle soup which was a welcome addition to the cold day. Also great to get multiple dishes on the table when you’ve limited cooking equipment.

Tonight, I’ll just nosh on the soy chicken and gnaw on a few of the green beans.

I'm at my sister's for the long weekend. Although we went out last night, tonight we are going simple, old school: Strip steaks, sauteed mushrooms, baked potatoes, Caesar salad. She might make a chimichurri sauce as a side. I also have a bottle of cab as the finishing touch.
