What’s for Dinner Tonight?

i love veal. is it easily available where you live? around here the markets that even carry it won't put it out where you can easily get it. you have to do something akin to a clandestine drug deal-get one of the meat department staff, tell them what you are looking for and they get it from the back of the butcher dept (they say if they put it out they end up with too many people looking to argue about it).
No. The big name stores around here do not carry it (or like you said it’s in the back) there is an old independent market about a half hour away that has it out. We went there for something else and DH grabbed it. He even said he had been looking for it at other stores.

what brand did you end up going with?
I went with a 5 burner all gas Frigidaire they mentioned I can order a griddle attachment to go over the 5th burner. (Which is a long skinny burner) I think that 5th burner will be good for my large canning pot. We’ll see how it works out.

I bought a gas stove with a permanent griddle in the middle thinking I would use it all the time. I hate to say it, but I've owned the stove for about 3 years and I have yet to use the griddle part for more than a place to put things while I cook. I hope you get to enjoy yours for much more than that. I don't know why but I can't bring myself to use it. I just grab the stove top griddle and use it instead. Strange I know.

but I think a couple pounds is going to DS for his party along with the salt potatoes.
I had to double check where you are from when I read salt potatoes 🙋🏾‍♀️

I live near Little Italy in the Bronx so treat myself to veal every once in a while. Going to wait until DGD returns to shop there again because I’m not paying the prices they offer for mail order.

@leebee Okay, I’ll give up DGD’s mess up- just don’t tell her!
A market was selling lamb rib and porterhouse chops at a great price.
She was to buy one pack of 5 chops since I figured that would last me a bit. She came home with five packs. 🫢

I took out a small aluminum pan of eggplant rollatini from the freezer for tonight’s dinner. Maybe I made it with bolognese sauce, maybe the sauce is meatless? I’ll find out when I eat it.

i got one of those for my former kitchenaid-honestly, only used it once b/c of spillage (and it was too narrow for my taste). i did keep it and have it sitting on the counter next to my new stove-works realy well as a 'spoon rest' (b/c it's longer it's great for longer spoons/spatulas). you will love the center burner-yes, great for canning and other large pots but also VERY nice if you use the drippings in a roasting pan to make gravy (and it also allows you to use a roasting pan to brown or fry items).

That is good to know. Mine doesn’t come with the griddle attachment but I can buy one. They seemed kind of small so I was torn and said I’d order later if I want it. I was concerned if it only had the griddle attachment my large canning pot would sit oddly on part of it.

Been sick the last couple of days—not COVID so far. Anyways I haven’t felt much like eating or cooking or really doing anything so it’s been fend for yourself around here.

Take-out Thai food. We picked it up on the way to have dinner at our friends' home. It was delicious! There was homemade yellow cake with hershey bar frosting for dessert!

oldest is staying over this week so i needed to consider stuff for work lunches...

in an attempt to make a further dent in clearing the freezer-pulled 3 different soups people can choose from, will make beef stroganoff and simple (jarred sauce) spagetti and (premade-costco) meatballs. covers us for dinner for a few nights/easy to combo with stuff for lunches.

Super Bowl watching food tonight. A crockpot of queso, guacamole, taco meat, refried beans (homemade-not from a can), various salsas and toppers. Chips and tortillas for making nachos or tacos.

Well last night’s eggplant rollatini was not a recipe I plan to repeat and I know there are more to be finished. IIt wasn’t bad tasting just not worth the effort. C’est la vie. Oh it wasn’t sauced with bolognese but instead a pretty good arrabbiata if I do say myself. Maybe if I think on it I can make it into a stew?

On to tonight’s meal. A friend is a football widow so she’s joining me for dinner.
We’ll have bo ssam ( Korean roast pork), an herb salad, white rice and dips for the roast. Clementines and lychee nuts for dessert. I’ve some ginger liqueur so maybe I’ll make some sort of cocktail to go with it and we can have a big grrl party.

Something delivered. I have a paper to finish and upload by 11:59 p.m. tonight. I sincerely thought I'd be done with it by now.

Although we do have frozen pizza in the freezer....hmmm...

I grilled salmon last night, so I'm going to make a salmon teriyaki bowl with the leftovers tonight. I'm on my own for the Super Bowl this year. Usually we host a party, but hubby is out of town and I've been sick...gotta say, I'm doing ok being alone this weekend. LOL

Feel better! I am just getting over something myself and was definitely happy when DD and DH were gone most of Friday and I could just be miserable in peace.

My dad is coming for the Super Bowl. I do not care one bit about this game or the commercials or really even the halftime show, but DH and my dad do. I like to have my dad for dinner on Sundays as often as I can so it is appetizers—peel and eat shrimp, cocktail meatballs, cheese, pepperoni and crackers, a bean salad and maybe nachos if DH wants them. My dad isn’t big on spicy and seems to think almost everything is spicy so he won’t eat the nachos.

We are having snacks while watching the game. Pigs in a blanket, Brie bites, bacon wrapped scallops, wings and I’m going to bake off (in the toaster oven but I’m getting better at it) some frozen chocolate chip cookies (I made and froze the dough a few weeks ago) and make ice cream sandwiches for dessert.
