What’s for Dinner Tonight?

It gets so dark early now that it’s hard to remember the time.
Wandered thru the local farmers’ market but bought hardly anything…just some Seckel pears and lady apples because they look so cute. Perfect for experimenting.

Spent a lot of the day making daily menus and sending them to DGD for her approval. She needs to enjoy it since normally I need no assistance for the kitchen (well not this kind of stuff) but this is her vac to spend with her sister. I’m sort of just a sidekick. Honestly the meals are all planned excepting some of the holidays. I’d planned a fancy meal for Christmas Day but was told they would really like fried chicken. Well ‘cuse the heckenspeck outta me but okey dokey as long as I get help. Now the truth of the matter is I haven’t fried a chicken since DGD’s third birthday party so I get her want but she’s passing up beef for cluck meat?! Hot dang 🤣

So anyway tonight is the Japanese takeout leftovers. Never ever poach three pears at the same time if you’re a solo. That’s six servings of pears or look at it as almost a week of them 👀; next time I’ll do one and save the poaching liquid.
I’m having a clementine for dessert in rebellion but tomorrow morning it’s back to pears and yogurt maybe with a little granola.

Still in paperwork land, texting back and forth across the Atlantic, so dinner is a version of a charcuterie plate: roast beef, Bayonne ham, quick pickle slices, roasted tomatoes, and carrot sticks with some Dijon mustard.

A glass of Champagne (in sampling mode) with a half of a poached pear in it; certainly tastes fancier 😉

I’m old but pretending I’m in my 20s this week so I’m exhausted 😂 Coming off of girls weekend I saw Dave Matthews Band last night because going out on a Tuesday seemed like a great idea 6 months ago. Long story short I made fettuccine Alfredo because I had heavy cream to use and it’s easy.

Last night we went to Sol Toro at Mohegan Sun before we saw Dave. We just got a bunch of apps.

I made NOTHING today. My students decided to share their cold with me and I feel terrible! So dh and ds(20) were on their own. One made a sandwich with last night’s London broil and soup and the other had hot dogs…just 4 hot dogs on a plate with a squirt of mustard. I’ll let you guess who had what. 🤣

Stayed home from work today. I just couldn’t fall asleep last night due to the congestion. Guess I’m not able to push through as much as I once was! All this from a simple cold! Not even Covid. A head cold. 🙄
Anyway, I made pulled Buffalo chicken for sandwiches. It’s ready to go for the boys in case I’m not feeling up to cooking later. And we have fries in the freezer that we can throw in the air fryer.

Yesterday I put bean soup on the crockpot and then made cornbread when I got home from work.

Tonight will be fettuccine alfredo. Very simple and delicious but so so bad for you, so I don't make it very often.

Crockpot.

At least, that's what my family always called it, as it was the only thing they cooked in the crockpot. It's probably more appropriately called pot roast: beef (this time a rump roast), potatoes, carrots and onions in the crockpot with a bit of water, some salt, pepper and garlic and a few bay leaves. Just right for a blustery day.

@WorldWacky I, too, have been home for the last three days with a cold- not even covid- that my students have shared. I'm on the mend (actually worked about a 1/2 day today) but there is no way I could have worked on Wednesday and Thursday- from a cold!

Anyhow.. dinner was supposed to be homemade tomato-basil soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, but due to weather and schedule changes, that was Thursday's dinner. Therefore, tonight we'll have the stouffer's lasagna that was supposed to be for last night, along with bagged Ceasar salad and a loaf of french bread. Everyone is busy, and the day runs late for DH and DD, on Thursdays so we try to do something very easy; easy prep, easy clean up. Hence the frozen lasagna and bagged salad.

Taking a page from your book, @NYCgrrl ... I dragged myself thru Sam's yesterday after going to the doctor. They had beautifully ripe Bartlett pears, 9 to a box for $5. Several have already been eaten, but we'll poach the other 6 in a nice red wine, either tonight or tomorrow, for a real treat. Of course, there are 5 of us, so I don't anticipate we'll be enjoying them for quite as long as you did!
