Whale Watching in Vancouver or Juneau?

Anyone who has done both?? We are spending 3 days in Vancouver before our cruise and found VancouverWhaleWatch has great reviews and will be really affordable with the USD to CAN conversion. Wondering how different it will be from Juneau?? We'll spend the extra $$ for Juneau if it's worth it.

Thoughts....
  • Juneau features the larger humpbacks, Vancouver features the smaller, but faster Orcas
  • Juneau is a short trip to Humpback Favourite Channel feeding grounds, Vancouver is a much longer water ride to feeding grounds Tumbo Island on my trip.
  • If you do decide on a whale watch from Vancouver.... look for an operation that departs from Storybrooke. The water ride is shorter and you skip the rough waters by the airport.
  • if you decide on a Juneau whale watch.... look for a combo with Mendenhall as they are both West of Juneau.
  • 3 days pre-cruise in Vancouver? lots of things to do to fill the time if you need suggestions.

Hi!! Yes, we would love to hear suggestions for Vancouver. We currently have tickets to the whitecaps game at BC place on one of the days as we're big soccer fans.

I've looked at photos and I think we might go with Juneau, especially because you also get the combo with Mendenhall Glacier. That will also give us more time to explore Vancouver. We've also been thinking about a day trip up to Whistler but not sure how reasonable that is.

We did the whale watch exursion out of Juneau and it was fabulous. Saw dozens of Humpback whales, seals, Eagles and the lunch was great, too.

VancouverWhaleWatch operates out of Storybrooke, so they would be my preferred Vancouver operator.

Another operator to consider is Prince of Whales, especially if you want to visit the Capital with Buchart. Operating from the cruise terminal, they take you to Victoria with a pitstop to the same Vancouver Whale Watch feeding grounds.

Soccer fan? fyi.... Cascadia offers 3 teams. The Princes of Whales also connects to Seattle with the clipper.

I'm actually flying to Vancouver for 3 days just to go on a whale watching tour with Vancouver Whale Watch! I'm so excited :) That said, I have been on a Juneau whale watch/glacier a few years ago. It might depend on what kind of whale you want to see, I'd think. I love orca so I've been on a quest to see them. The fact that the USD is stronger than the CAD doesn't hurt either...as a matter of fact it was one of my considerations when I was deciding whether to go to Seattle/Orcas Islands or Vancouver.

We did the whale excursion in Juneau and it was amazing. We saw so many humpback whales and my kids still talk about it a year later. We did not go whale watching in Vancouver so I don't have any comparison.
