Tonight was "Varsity Night" at my house. For those of you who aren't familiar, there is a famous dive, er, drive-in restaurant in Atlanta called the Varsity that's famous for their various hot dogs. So, tonight DH decides we're going to have Varsity Chili Cheese Dogs for supper. I try not to have him cook dinner because he's really not good at it. Really. Not Good. But,hey! How bad can you mess of hot dogs, right?

Okay, well, first you have to know that DD17 is vegetarian, has been for 4 years. So, she's looking at the chili and says,"Dad? Does this have meat in it?" Dad says, no,it's "textured vegetable protein." She looks at me, "Mom? Does this look like meat to you?" Why, yes it does, let me taste it. Mmmmm, meaty meat...Dad says, "No, no, it's TVP. it says so on the can." Can? What can? That one in the trash? The one that says "water, BEEF, tomatoes, spices, chilies, jalopenos and TEXTURED VEGETABLE PROTEIN?":sad2:

Of course, we found DD some of her special vegetarian chili which she adores, but I'm still sitting here going ,"Huh?":confused3 DH is upset and won't talk about it. I hope this was an honest mistake, but seriously? You can't read BEEF on the can and know it means MEAT? I guess the reason I'm wondering about this is that sometimes DH "teases" DD by offering her meat of some kind. I think this is terribly passive-aggressive and it mildly annoys me and her. But I've not known him to try to hide meat in her food, so it has to be a mistake, right?

Love the Varsity and a FO.

If we time it right from when we leave Augusta and head to my in-laws (Powder Springs/Marietta) we will hit the downtown one, before heading out to PS. But, having the one at Town Center is also good, as it is close to family as well.

And you better know what you're ordering before stepping up to that counter.

Man, hmmm, it's only 2.5 hours away, you're making me want to jump up and goooooooo.

DH went to GA Tech. I love the Varsity, but he said 4 years of living downwind of it will change your opinion. LOL

The Varsity rocks! Y'all got me craving one of those hot dogs. I think I'll go right now!:thumbsup2

Varsity...the ONLY place to go after a Saturday night Braves game!

The Varsity! Been to the one downtown Atlanta and in Athens. Town Square is the closest to me yet I've never been!

I don't understand why your DH is upset. :confused3 Your DD should be the one who is upset. If he did it on purpose, it's very wrong; it's disrespectful of her beliefs.

If he did it by accident, maybe he's embarrassed about it? :confused3

I'm glad you had something she could eat after all. :goodvibes

Great, now I'm craving the Varsity too...lol

My stomach is not strong enough for the Varsity anymore, meat or no meat...:scared:

I love the Varsity! - Now that Varsity chilli dogs are on my mind- I have a good feelling where we will be eating one day this week:)

Mmmm- the Varsity! One of the things we miss most about ATL. Whatta ya have? A chili cheese dog, rings, and a jumbo F.O. Yum!!

Too funny! We exited off of I 78/85 a few months back and were on our way from the Fernbank to the aquarium, DH says I sure would love a Varsity hot dog, wonder how close we are. I looked up and said, it's right there on the corner! It was fate! of course neither one of our girls are big fans, but they love the shirts!

I was going to be SO disappointed if this thread was not about the Varsity! LOL! MMMmmmmm...I could go for some onion rings about now...

You just must have the frozen orange!

The crew I had to do a ride in with a few weeks ago saved me when we stopped at the V in athens on the way back home. They bought my frozen orange since I left my wallet in the car. I wasn't expecting to go with them and didn't think to grab it.

I miss the guy that said that! He was so nice and it was worth it to go see him. RIP Whaddaya have guy. :sad2:

This. This is how my dad always was. If he made a mistake, he'd get angry and start yelling at everyone. My mom and I finally figured out that it was just his (inappropriate) way of dealing with the embarassment and the mistake he made.

I wouldn't worry too much. Just act like all is well and treat him no differently.
