Tonight was "Varsity Night" at my house. For those of you who aren't familiar, there is a famous dive, er, drive-in restaurant in Atlanta called the Varsity that's famous for their various hot dogs. So, tonight DH decides we're going to have Varsity Chili Cheese Dogs for supper. I try not to have him cook dinner because he's really not good at it. Really. Not Good. But,hey! How bad can you mess of hot dogs, right?
Okay, well, first you have to know that DD17 is vegetarian, has been for 4 years. So, she's looking at the chili and says,"Dad? Does this have meat in it?" Dad says, no,it's "textured vegetable protein." She looks at me, "Mom? Does this look like meat to you?" Why, yes it does, let me taste it. Mmmmm, meaty meat...Dad says, "No, no, it's TVP. it says so on the can." Can? What can? That one in the trash? The one that says "water, BEEF, tomatoes, spices, chilies, jalopenos and TEXTURED VEGETABLE PROTEIN?"
Of course, we found DD some of her special vegetarian chili which she adores, but I'm still sitting here going ,"Huh?"
DH is upset and won't talk about it. I hope this was an honest mistake, but seriously? You can't read BEEF on the can and know it means MEAT? I guess the reason I'm wondering about this is that sometimes DH "teases" DD by offering her meat of some kind. I think this is terribly passive-aggressive and it mildly annoys me and her. But I've not known him to try to hide meat in her food, so it has to be a mistake, right?
