March 30th Sailing of the Magic as of this morning:

10C: $2840
10A: $3204

9D: $2980
9C: $3092
9B: $3204
9A: $4114

7A: $3820
6A: $4002
4A: $6018

What on earth makes the 9A so much better than a 7A or 6A? :rotfl:
And really 9B is $1022 less than a 9A!

Those 9As must be really special on this sailing!:lmao:

Not to mention the 10's are more than or equal to all of the 9's except those highly prized 9As!

This is our sailing and every once in a while I take a peek to see what is still available. This morning really had me confused with the crazy pricing!

Probably has to do with demand for the diff room categories. Less demand = lower pricing.

All depends on availability. 8As are often more than 6s or 7s because people like the idea of the bigger cabin and two portholes. That and the fact that there are not that many of them.

I think what happens here -- just guessing -- is they drop the price of the categories they need to sell, but don't really touch the other categories.

I watch my cruise and a couple other the same month, and I see this happen the most with 9D. It will sometimes drop lower than 11C. Then it goes back up and all is in line again. I also see this with 7A, which is sometimes thousands less than 6B and very close to some of the ocean views, but then goes back up.

It looks like you're seeing this on several room categories all at once on your cruise. 6A is interesting. Looks like they want to get rid of them. There's no way 9A is really more in demand than 6A, but I think they must have very few 9As to sell and they don't want to sell them as much as the others, so they keep them high to try to get rid of other categories.

Nope, not on the Magic!

There are fewer inside staterooms so they sell out faster, which moves the category up to the next tier faster, which results in them being priced more than the other staterooms. Crazy but true. This has been reported quite a bit since the Dream started cruising last year.

But a 9A doesn't have a virtual porthole. It has a REAL porthole. And yet, it's more expensive than the verandah rooms. And also, this is on the Magic, which doesn't even have virtual portholes at all. So, this argument isn't really valid in this case.

I'm on this sailing too!!!!! I just booked 17 days ago and I paid a lot more than these prices for a 7A! LOL I paid what I paid because it was when I needed to go! Oh well!

I'm going to be doing NOTHING but relaxing!

This sailing had no inside staterooms available last week and only one category of 9's so obviously something opened up, but the pricing is really funny! I know it happens, but it is really odd!

I thought about the supply and demand thing and the availability of staterooms in one category being more plentiful than in others thus the pricing tiers changing, but I can't get over the prices of the 9A vs. the verandah rooms! It's not a little, it is $1,000 more for an OV vs. Verandah!

When we booked our cruise for August, we booked 8A for our family and wanted the CHEAPEST room for our in-laws who are on a budget. We ended up booking them a deluxe oceanview (forget which number) which was way cheaper than any other lower category for them. Weird.

That's been happening a lot for the Fantasy sailings in July and August, which I've been watching, too. The 9A price will dip down to like $500 below 11C. It can come and go, sometimes for only a part of a day. Then OGT/IGT/VGT shows up and changes everything.

This is definitely more understandable. We have been finding that on the Dream over the past year and now the Fantasy that there is unusual demand for the inside staterooms because people want to try the virtual porthole, and the fact that there are so few of those rooms on the new ships. Many long time cruisers who frequently get a verandah want to try out the virtual porthole, especially on the shorter Dream cruises.

I've heard that. To each his or her own, but I'd much prefer a real porthole. Last time we had an 11C, our virtual porthole was on the fritz for probably 4 of 5 days of the cruise. Not even really a "sorry" from anyone on board except our room steward who really didn't have anything to do with trying to fix it. Maybe if it had worked, I would see what the big deal is. To me, while it worked, it was a nice substitute for a real porthole, but really just a substitute.

I completely agree with you. I would not pay more for an inside stateroom just to see the virtual porthole. I guess that's why I started this whole thread. I cannot imagine paying $1000 more for an OV (9a) than a verandah (6a)!

if this happens on my cruise can I call and have my price dropped or my room upgraded?????
