So, I was just on another board reading about that couple banned from RCCL for life, and I happened to see another thread that turned out to be hiliarious. It was all about people sprinting to the ship right as it was getting ready to leave the dock. It made me think that I've never noticed anyone on DCL do that, or as they apparently do on Royal and Carnival, I've never noticed the railings being filled with people watching the people sprinting for the ship.

So, is DCL's demographics really that different that we just don't have that go on, or is it a case where I just haven't noticed either of that type of behavior?

In other words, Have YOU ever seen a runner?

On the 12/8/07 Eastern we almost left someone behind in St. Thomas. Announcements for "the following people" to call Guest Services came and went and the ship pushed away from the dock on time. We were 5-10 feet away from the dock when we reversed direction. The gangplank was put back in place and two guest came on board. I wouldn't call them runners though. They took their time, sauntering up to the dock and on to the ship. I don't think they realized how lucky they were!

They leave you. You have to find a way at your expense to meet up with the cruise ship at the next port. We were recently the stupid people sprinting to the ship and almost got left on RCCL on our 4 night quicky cruise to Ensenada Mexico. Hahaha We looked so stupid running thru the cruise terminal and they had to fire up the xray machine again, and lower the ramp to let us on. Hahahaha People on the ship were MAD!!!!!! and we couldn't stop giggling like a couple of little kids.

We've watched runners a bunch of times on DCL. The people on the verandahs one year were chearing them on as they just made it.

nokanda: If you miss making it back on it is your responsibilty to get yourself to the next port to get back on. They tend to try and wait a bit longer for people who have kids they left on the ship when they got off but they can only wait so long. I've also heard of a pilot boat getting people on the ship shortly after it has left the dock.

I saw some runners a few years ago at Cozumel. Our Friends were staying in the Walt Suite and we were out on the veranda watching people run for the ship. Some were on golf carts and some were on foot. All of them made it on to the ship but it was hilarious to hear them calling their names out over the intercom and we knew it was the people running.

One other time I saw 2 people miss the ship and just stood there with their hands up.

OMG!
I can't even imagine missing the boat when my kids are on board :faint:
(actually, I can't imagine leaving the ship without them...)
What would they do with the kids when Mom & Dad get stuck on the island??

So what happens with the kids if the ship leaves the parents at a port?

I just saw runners on our April 24th cruise in Nassau but they were running for a Carnival ship everyone was watching them. They basically hopped on and the ship left.

That's one advantage of taking the DCL excursions. As long as you stay with the group, you won't miss the ship.

Not necessarily....Many DCL Excursions have open ended returns (like the ones in Nassau) where you just hand a ticket to any water taxi coming back... You still have to make sure you leave plenty of time to return.

We were on a ship that it did happen...luckily there was an Aunt on board to take care of them but I am not sure what would have actually happened otherwise.

We have seen runners several times on our weekend cruises to Mexico..some have made it and some have not. The funniest was a woman who obviously had been drinking in Cabo. She was coming back on the tender (and we were not yet moving but she was late) and thinking she was going to miss the boat..dove off of the tender and tried to swim to the ship. They pulled her back on the tender and took her back to Cabo and we left..I think it had something to do with endangering or something. Anyways...my DH and I have often sat and enjoyed an ice cream watching for the runners.

I believe the last set of kids left behind now work in the galley.

No, No, No, they get put up on the art auction block and sold to the highest bidders.

Just kidding, poor little things.:sad2:
