Wet Swimsuit Question...

If we plan to take a swim before departing on Southwest (late 8pm flight), is it ok to simply pack our wet swimsuits in a plastic bag in our carryons?

For some reason I feel confused about this... Will the airport hassle us because the suits are wet?

we've just plopped each in a gallon zip bag, then put them in the outside zipped pocket of carryon, no problem

For anyone considering packing wet suits in checked baggage, the presence of wetness won't be an issue, but the weight of them might be. (Also consider the possibility of mildew if the bag gets delayed.)

Just FYI, checked or carried on, it's always a good idea to do the towel-wrap-stomp before putting your suits in baggies. When you take your suit off, lay it flat on a towel and then roll up the suit in the towel until it's pretty tightly rolled. Walk on the roll for several minutes in order to squeeze the moisture out into the towel as much as possible, then unwrap it and bag the suit. (I stomp around on the roll while I dry my hair, so it doesn't take any extra time.) Men's suits will dry almost completely this way; lycra suits less so. I wear suits with a lot of structural layers, so removing the excess water this way normally lightens my load by well over a pound.

You can minimize the amount of water still in your suit before you stow it in your bag by rolling it up in a dry pool towel and pressing and squeezing the rolled up towel to get as much water out of the suit as possible. Don't twist the towel because that might damage the suit, just press and squeeze. Then take a fresh towel and do it again. The suit will be just slightly damp by that point. Then put it in a Ziploc bag.

It really is a treat to take one last swim before heading to the airport!

lol so hot in FLA all you really need to do is sit out & dry off a half hour or sobut if you're in a hurry the towel roll is a good idea...we are typically checked out of room so no opportunity to go back & regroup.

it'd be swell if they'd install those gizmos many waterparks have that spin all the water out of your suit.

We had planned to lie in the sun for a bit but it started to rain while we were still in the pool. It was the only rain we had all week so I can't really complain but it came at an inconvenient time. So for us the towel roll was the only option.

I agree about those high speed gizmos. Very handy when you are heading to the airport.

As long as there isn't more than 3.4oz of water that can be squeezed out, you should be fine putting it in a carry on.

Might be better not to put it in an outside pocket of the suitcase because that might cause the suitcase to be measured as oversized.

No need to take the bag with the swimsuits out specially for inspection but if they ask and the bag ends up with a lot of water sloshing around, then the water can be poured out at the checkpoint.

I consider twist-wringing to be very passe'. That can break threads in the fabric randomly.
