Wet shoes on Kali River Rapids?

On our last trip to the World (2001) we were allowed to remove our shoes and place them in the center of the raft, however I've heard that this is not the case anymore.

Will we be walking around in soaked shoes the rest of the day or will our feet make it throught ok? :umbrella: I was thinking of packing our flip flops to slip into before riding, but don't want the hassle of carrying them around all day if it's not necessary.

Only 3 weeks to go and all these little things are popping into my head... :headache:

DH and I wore disposable rain ponchos. We pulled our feet up as high as possible and tucked the poncho under us as well as we could. We came through it relatively dry! We always save this ride till the very end of our day so that we can just leave should our plan fail and we're soaked thru!

On AK day, we wear our waterproof Teva sandals. Otherwise, your feet would get soaked.

You could rent a locker at AK to keep your other shoes or flip flops.

I always wear sandals on days I know I might get wet that way they dry fast and I don't have to deal with wet feet the rest of the day. :)

I saw a family put their feet into plastic bags and slip hair scrunchies around the ankles last year. After the ride they just took off the bags and threw them and put the scruchies back into their pockets. Well prepared or what!

I thought about the plastic bag idea, however I think my 14 year old might jump overboard if I pull those out!! :earseek:

I think we'll plan on bringing along our flip flops and leaving our shoes behind with my mom and dad - there's no way they'll go on Kali! We'll be doing EMH at MK that evening so dry shoes are a must!!

Thanks for the input! :flower:

Underneath the center console, there's a bar around it. It might feel a little awkward to put your feet on it, but I highly recommend doing it. I had an injured toe when we went on the ride, and I was worried about getting the bandage soaked---when all was said & done, every inch of me was soaked BUT my feet! :rotfl:

:rotfl2: I have two teenagers myself so this comment made me laugh! So true! :rotfl2:

If you're stuck, there's a kiosk near the exit that sells sandals.

They never miss a beat...

This past Oct I carried DSs watershoes & my flip flops in a backpack

We are also planning on bringing flip flops to change into.
And we hope our plan works out so that this is our last ride and we can head back to the hotel to change.
Course--it may be nice to be kinda damp--I keep reading posts that this is the hottest park.

Regardless-- have a blast! :cool1:

Here's what I would do:

buy a pair of flip flops at wal-mart for $1

put them on for the kali rapids ride

after the ride, throw them in the trash so you don't have to carry them around! :flower:

My DD4 was small enough that her rain poncho covered her shoes. The CM loading the rides suggested that your feet would get least wet if you kept them on the footrail on the center console. It worked for me; however, I wasn't in the "soaker" position when we went over the bump for the big splash.

This ride is very aptly signed! They say "you will get wet, you MAY get soaked." Somehow, even in December, we manage to get SOAKED every time we ride, so we have a whole game plan - Come to the parks carrying (or wearing) our swimsuit under our clothes. Change right before we go on the ride to a different set of clothes that we're carrying that we don't care about (for example, the guys will be in swim trunks and old t-shirts, and the ladies will be in swim suits with old shirts and a t-shirt thrown on). We'll put everything in our back pack (which we'll be trash bagging and throwing in the center console for good measure), including plastic bags to stuff the wet clothes into. This worked great on our 2003 trip (and saved us from buying clothes).
We'll change afterwards and throw the pack in a locker. End of problem! :) And the swim suits will come in handy, since we'll probably go to typhoon lagoon that day as our mid-afternoon break. :) Ah... lazy river here I come! :)

You beat me to it! This is exactly what we did last year and I was very glad that we did. The second time around (they let us stay on for two rides), I was the one with my back to the drop. I was absolutely drenched from head to toe. It would not have mattered where I had placed my feet. The wave of water gushed over top of me :rotfl2: .

If you put your feet up on the foot rest and keep them there during the ride, your shoes should not get too wet. I have used that foot rest several times with no problems or wet feet even though the rest of me was soaked.

I'm enjoying reading this thread. My dh & ds went on it without me in 2001. They came off DRY, I kid you not. We hadn't ridden this ride before but I wasn't in the mood to get wet. My guys were fine...nice and dry. It was the end of the day and I was tired so still didn't want to go on. The following year, we are in AK, a cloudy drizzly morning and my guys said...come on, you won't get wet, we didn't last year. Well, we got off soaked...I totally hated walking around soaking wet. I keep saying that I'm going to have flip-flops and use a poncho this time and I don't quite have that teenager but ds is 12 and I can hear him now...mom, you look so dorky. :rotfl:

Yeah, my 17 year old would freak if I did the baggies on the feet thing. :rotfl:

I usually get on, then slip off the shoes as we are underway and out of view of the CM's, and store them in the middle. But cheap flip flops would work too, and just put your regular shoes in the middle undercover, and throw out the flip flops at the end. I think I will try that one.

I have never been but I was thinking about bringing skinny light flipflops (i have a pair that are falling apart) and an extra pair of shorts/undies (cloth) so that i dont have to sit in the wet shorts and i dont care about the wet shirt- does that sound ok for Kali and Splash Mountain and the fountains at EPCOT and everything water related?

We have always just put our feet on the bar and even if we get soaked, our feet are fine and dry. I was SO glad when they started the "keep your shoes on" rule. I always thought it was gross when people took their shoes off.
