Wet shoes on Kali River Rapids?

I always waer my MICKEY poncho on this ride and keep my feet on the bar. The poncho does a great job of keeping you relatively dry,but you have to be willing to wear the hood too!! And yes, people look at you like you are a DORK! But I hate walking around WET or going into air-conditioning wet. Joan

Thanks for all the great replies!!

I might look into the cheap $1 flip-flops - they'll be alot lighter to carry around than our pool sandals. Of course, I'll have to check with the boys to see if they can possibly be seen with such things on their feet!! Kali will be our last ride of the day so I don't care if the rest of me gets soaked - and I know we will get soaked! :cheer2:

Do the CMs know which seats are in the soak zone or does it just depend on which way the boat turns during the trip? Ive been on this twice before and I dont fancy donning a poncho but had the water pour over me on both occasions - ew wet knickers on a big gal - not a pretty sight!!

I am really questioning whether to do this ride. We have a ride here at home called Grizzly Run at a Six Flags park. I am wondering if it is similar to that.
Is this really something not to be missed? Is it the theming that makes it a great ride or will it be like the six flags ride...and the thrill is mostly the rolling in the rapids etc???
I hate getting all wet and I imagine my two adult daughters would not be crazy about it either considering how long it takes them to do their hair every day. (Please no comments about us girls worrying about our looks! ) I have considered buying the dollar ponchos if I can find them at my dollar store...but I am wondering if we should just pass it up anyways???

Thanks for you help!

I think Kali is probably just like the ride you are familiar with at Six Flags. I don't recall any special theming that makes Kali any different.

To be honest, if you don't like getting wet I just wouldn't bother with Kali, you get soaked. I cannot remember any special themeing so I don't think you will miss much.

I've been on Grizzly Run before and it is the same concept. The drop at the Animal Kingdom is about twice as hig as the drop of Grizzly Run.

Lands End has a great mesh sneaker called Sea-to-shore Sport Shoes this season, and it is comfy enough for all-day wear but dries fairly quickly. Its much easier than a "water shoe" that you have to stretch on and off. You can get them in Sears for around $29 (womens). Or more colors and stuff on web. In fact, I looked up the web address, but you can get them at Sears.

It depends on how the boat turns. Our first run through, I was facing forward when we got to the drop and barely got sprinkled with water. The second time through, my back was to the drop and I was absolutely soaked to the bone. A wave of water came gushing over the back of me and completely drenched me. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the weight in the boat because it was the same group of people both times and in the same seats (and I'm 5'1" and 110 lbs).

I am not for sure how you would feel about this but here is it:

1 - when i was a kid my dad traveled and wore suits on the time - he had these things he would pack in his bags on road trips - the rolled up to about the size of some tube socks rolled up but they were rubber bootie deals that would cover his shoes. he used them in the snowy states to keep his dress shoes from getting yet.

2 - you can also buy a pair of water socks. not sure how comfortable that would be to wear all day long but if you know you want to do more then one water ride back to back, wear them, then have a locker ready and tuck them away when you are done. you can also have a change of clothes or a towel in the locker to help get dry. then you can wear the water socks at the water parks too, everything I read about the water parks suggests to wear them anyway.

some teen agers would get it - too - if you brought the palstic bags. Ask your teen what he would want, wet feet all day or to do that.

Why did they bring in the 'no taking your shoes off rule'? I know we could in 2000. I am glad this thread was started because otherwise I would have not been any the wiser that you couldn't take your shoes off. We have water shoes so will probably wear them on that day.

We usually skip Kali now, because we don't like being soaked down to our undergarments  Maybe we'll wear the swimsuits and buy the cheap flip flops to try it again next time :p

We rode it repeatedly on our last trip. Even with my poncho on, I got soaked. I think it did help keep my top a bit dry, but my shorts were soaking wet. I don't care for that feeling either. If you're in the drenching seat, I think you're doomed, no matter what you're wearing. :guilty:

Check out one of the many threads on CROCS. They are very comfortable walking shoes that can handle the water.

We saved Kali for later in the day (fastpass). It was SO hot, we wanted to get wet, but we didn't really.
But we didn't want wet shoes, so DD & I took a small daypack with our keys, money, camera etc. and two pairs of flip flops and a plastic bag. We put on the flip flops for the ride, put our shoes in the pack with the plastic bag over the pack.
When we went to the other parks, it was better because we didn't have to lug around a daypack at all.
Kali was fun, but it's best if it's really hot! If it's chilly, I think we'd skip it.
I can't wait for that Everest attraction!!! :goodvibes

Thanks Melissa, I will have a look to see if we can get CROCS over here.

Two other hints:
Don't wear jeans... They take forever to dry and the chaving is not worth it.
Don't wear white shorts. I have never done this but I have seen some who have and believe me, I saw more than I wanted to. Also, if the weather man says rain, don't wear those white shorts please.
I like the ride and usually don't get wet but this past summer I got soaked. Luckily I was in my dark blue cotton shorts so it was ok and I dried within an hour.
But once I went on it and never got wet at all. We got off the ride just as a terrible storm hit with the most incredible lightening I have ever seen. I got soaked running from the ride to one of the stores to sit inside because I wasn't going to sit under a tree or umbrella like some people did. So the ride didn't get me but the storm did.
