We are going to Universal and IOA in January 2013 over the MLK jr. holiday. I was wondering if the wet rides are still open...do they tone down how soaked you get in winter? Would we be crazy to ride these?

The water rides begin their annual refurb during that time. Only one will be shut down at a time, so the other two will keep going. Your best bet would be to invest in a poncho, as the rides are going to get you soaked no matter what.

The lines will be short, though!

We've rode those rides in Jan and Feb and had a blast every time! Some people looked at us like we were crazy lol but we loved it! Just bring a poncho OR a spare change of clothes (including underwear!) which is what we did! And remember to continue wearing the wet clothes until after you've rode Jurassic Park! ;)

We go every December and stay at the HRH...the really cold winter two years ago we opted not to go on the water rides. Other years we set aside an afternoon to go on the water rides alone and then go back to the room. The advantage to the water rides that time of year is much shorter lines. :)

It still gets hot in Florida during the winter, if that is what you are wondering.

When we were there December 2008 we had one day where we had to wear pants and light jackets...the rest of the days were nice and warm but not hot. We just followed the weather and picked our warmest day to ride them. Of course last year...or was it the year before...they had freezing temps....you'll just have to wait and see :)
