Wet Rides and Protecting Your Stuff

I've gotten soaked on some rides - which is okay - but more worried about stuff in my bag that I don't want to get wet (cameras, phone, dry shirt I would like to keep dry).

Splash Mountain - is there a space for stuff in front - and does that stay protected or should I assume my backpack may get soaked?

Kali River Rapids - you put shoes and other stuff in covered spot in the middle? Is there room for backpacks?

Splash Mountain doesn't have a protected area to store your stuff. I would just have ziploc bags in your backpack for things like your camera and phone that you don't want to get wet, although to be honest, I've never had an issue with my stuff getting wet on Splash.

That covered space in the middle of KRR isn't very big, certainly not big enough for everyone's stuff, and you're not allowed to take your shoes off. However, they do now have lockers nearby that are free for 2 hours.

How to avoid wet shoes on Kali? Carry flip flops? Shoes take so long to dry out.

The Rapids will get you soaked through depending on where you sit. Water does seep into the middle thing where people put purses and bags so that is not completely protected. They added lockers that I believe are two hours for free. The only thing that was a bit odd is that to get your stuff out after two hours, you have to insert a credit card. I thought that was strange since your stuff (including my credit cards) was in the locker. The ride got stuck when we were in line for quite awhile and maintenance had to come out, so we only rode it once to get back to the locker, but overall the lockers are a very nice addition. We usually carry flip flops when we plan to ride the rapids ride and change into them and put our regular shoes in the locker. Even if you keep your feet up, they will still get soaked.

Haven't ridden Splash Mountain in years - it is closed every time we visit.

Another strange thing - we were in the front row of Pirates of the Carribean recently and got pretty darn wet which surprised us. I don't ever remember getting too wet on that before. We were walking around with soaked butts and jeans on a cold day. Might want to watch your stuff on there too! I read someone else saying they got pretty wet on it too.

I wear flip flops in the parks, they get a bit squishy but dry fast. I am not am not a sneaker person.

On our last trip I carried several sandwich sized bags in my park bag. They worked well. I don't remember getting too wet.

I ziplock bag the camera and cell phone now, ever since my smart phone got fried on Splash

I've actually had pretty good luck with just propping my feet up on the bar. It doesn't keep the water off my shoes, but at least my feet aren't in the water in the bottom of the raft.

In May, my daughter and I were the last two to get into the raft on Kali. I had a small backpack, and I had ziplocks inside with my phone and camera in them (this was pre-lockers, I think). I still wanted to put my pack in the center so the rest of the stuff wouldn't get soaked. However, the other occupants of the raft had filled the entire center compartment and would not move any stuff around to make room for ours. So it got wet. I would do the locker, or get a waterproof backpack like this one from North Face: http://www.thenorthface.com/catalog/sc-gear/waterproof-daypack.html?cm_vc=Search

It is just one large compartment, so not my ideal backpack for normal use, but great for water proof days!!

I would only bring what you NEED and will use while you're there: cash/debit or credit card, ID, phone, and a phone... and put it in a waterproof pouch, and wear it all day. Might not look the way you want, and if you're used to carrying a purse or something... sorry, but this has always worked for me.

I always use a shopping bag from one of the gift shops. I put my bag in it and tie it up. It keeps it dry as a bone.

There's a camera waterproof bag sold in ebay that's large, I don't dare to use underwater, but it protects properly from water splash, and you can put inside it camera, smartphone and documents... you can buy a waterproof backpack too at northface for example.

Contemplating a waist pack only but evenings will be cool and wanted to throw a light jacket in the backpack - really that's the only bulky thing. I don't like tying the jacket it around my waist.

Snap!! Got totally drenched on the front row of POTC last trip!! Had to head into the ladies, half strip and get myself semi dry under the hand dryers - luckily for us it was June and hot! Never expected that, it's never happened before......maybe we had a heavy boat? :-/

We've gotten drenched too, I've read they changed the boat design and it's been happening more and more, especially with a heavy boat. The water cannon that blows off on the right just after the drop totally got me one day. I don't know if the timing was off, I've not seen it happen since, but the right side of me was soaked.

I only carry the necessities with me, and anything that needs to stay dry goes in a zip lock bag. I always have a couple extras in my pocket as well, just in case one gives up on me, since I will open and close, and fold them up many many times over the course of our two week stay.

Maybe I should scratch asking for front row in Pirates!

I always carry one of the xx-large Ziplock bags with me. It folds up very small but holds alot of stuff. I've put shoulder bags and fanny packs in one(for 5 of us) with plenty of room and everything stayed perfectly dry. The people in line around us were all commenting that they wished they had one!! :)

I would never put anything valuable in a locker! Kali River Rapids is one of the wettest rides I've ever been on! :scared1: My sons would always make fun of me because I would wear a rain poncho on any water rides. Well, let me tell you, that rain poncho did nothing to protect me on that ride! I walked around the park all morning, soaked completely thru. I felt like I had laid down in a bathtub with all my clothes on!

I have been on the ride a couple of times since then but it has to be a pretty warm day so I have a chance of drying out! :rotfl: I make sure to take one of those extra big zip lock bags for my camera and purse because, I agree, that middle compartment will not keep your belongings dry.

TC :cool1:

That's strange because I always wear a poncho on KRR and it works great. I put my backpack on my lap under the poncho and it stays dry too. Why wouldn't you use a locker? I haven't been to WDW since they added the lockers near KRR, but I've used the ones at Grizzly River Run at DCA (which work the same way as the ones at KRR) with no problems.
