Yer preachin' to the choir. I've driven to both DTW and Pearson for flights (leaving from the London area) - and unless the flight is at an ungodly hour, driving to Pearson has almost always been a royal pain. Traffic on the 401 starts backing up somewhere between Milton and Mississauga. Detroit or Toronto are about the same distance from my home - but even with a border crossing (Sarnia-Port Huron) I have always been able to get to DTW faster than Pearson.I am eagerly watching the airlines. We usually fly from Detroit but are open to anything. We live about 3 hrs from Detroit and Buffalo and 2.5 hrs from Toronto. Flying from Detroit has always been a great/smooth experience. Can't say the same for Pearson! We are leaving the end of November so here's hoping SWA has their seat sale.
Even though we're going in about a month - I (at the time) reluctantly bought our airfare back at the end of April. It was a non-stop on NWA right in the middle of what I was expecting to pay - I had budgeted a maximum of $800 USD r/t all taxes for 4 tickets - but hoped to get it for maybe $600 if a good seat sale came up. I was checking everything - NWA, Spirit, AirTran, etc. I got the NWA for $700 (came out to $702.93 CDN). With all the recent fuel surcharges, baggage fees, etc. - I'm now glad I bought when I did - I don't think I could get a better non-stop deal at this point - at least not one with flight times we want.I just booked 8 tickets with Air-tran for $2112 taxes included. It was the best price we could find as we've been watching the fares daily! We are flying out of Detroit.
