So I look today about switching the time for my March flight and see that the price dropped form $105 each way to $89 each way. So I call to see if I can get the difference, even as a credit, but it would cost me $9 MORE per person to get the cheaper airfare due to the "change fee" to have the lower rate applied. So I did nothing.

Also, Westjet is stopping their non-stop service from Montreal to MCO in April, leaving my only nonstop option AC.

What I want to know is when did WestJet start a nonstop YUL-MCO service.

I knew when I went to visit my parents last May, I only had AC as a nonstop option. The price difference was enough that I ended up flying Delta via ATL instead.

We are flying Airtansat nonstop from Montreal March break. I paid 99$ each way ( but with taxes of douse it got to almost $400) and I did notice that when you check travel boards they rarely include AirTransat as an option.

Just a thought as I don't know if WestJet has any cancellation fees, but can you cancel your current flights, get the credit and then rebook on the same flights? :confused3

I believe Westjet's change fee is the same as their cancel fees, both ways they get you.

I wish we had more US airlines flying out of Canada like Southwest and Jetblue! Maybe then AC and WJ would cutback on all their fees and surcharges.

They must've changed their policies in the last couple of years. I had to cancel a flight on WJ and they issued me a credit with no penalty. I know they've changed a lot of things lately though, so I wouldn't be surprised if they changed that too. I want to be supportive of Canadian airlines, but I have to be honest and say that their prices are just not competitive enough for me. And now SW airlines is advertising so much about no fee changes that are now in effect.

I believe we have a few more US airlines flying out of Edmonton than you do - which for us gives us a few more choices. I agree we need to get airlines like SW up here as well.

We couldn't agree more ... we fly to the US 3 or 4 times a year (Florida twice a year), and have always used a US carrier for our trips. When booking, we don't even consider AC or WJ.

It's been running for a while, we flew WJ direct to MCO last March from YUL. Used AC the year before, but WJ was a direct option at that time too (pretty sure). They likely only offer the direct service during the winter snowbird season though, thus the April stop.

This year we managed to get WJ direct from Ottawa. The March break flight sells out early, but we were on top of it this time.

Another option is to drive down to Burlington and fly to Orlando direct through JetBlue

Our YUL-MCO flight was 75$ each way (plus taxes)... was at 89$ and I thought it wouldn't go lower, forgot to book, so I cautiously checked the next day and it had dropped to 75$!

I hate american airlines....much prefer flying direct with WJ or flying with AC than the rickety old planes that United uses! No inflight entertainment/ no radio even, and cramped old planes. I know some say they don't mind because they bring their own DVD players, etc...., but I don't like having to haul a bunch of extra stuff. I like the newer Jets on WJ, and AC, in seat entertainment center and flying with a Canadian Carrier. :goodvibes I am flying direct with WJ to Orlando in Feb, and am very much looking forward to no transfers and one up/one landing on the plane!
Prices aren't bad when you manage to grab a good fair either!

Couldn't agree more....I refuse to use American and United airlines. They both suck!

Another option for the Montreal travellers is to drive to Plattsburgh NY (they advertise themselves as "Montreal's American Airport") and fly on Allegiant. I've seen fares as low as $19 each way. It's a no-frills flight but you can't beat the price sometimes. And it's less than an hour drive away. Only down-side is they fly into Sanford, not MCO so you'll have to rent a car, which actually isn't a bad thing.

I think the WestJet service is "seasonal" now and ends in April like Sunwing.

We drive down to BTV most of the time due to cost, but in May DD and I are flying down before the boys and with just one car we are limited to YUL. And We want to fly on a Tues or Wed and airtransat is only the weekend.

So I am hoping for an airfare sale on AC and taking the less gas, free parking, and free luggage.

I keep calling SW and asking them to fly out of Plattsburgh or Burlington. We do not fly Allegiant since they do not land in MCO and we use ME.

Good luck to all and boo to airfare to FL!
