Westjet is Freaking me OUT

Our Westjet flights have been changed as well. Bought our tickets with Air Miles. No one has contacted us yet. I only know this because my parents booked their with RBC Rewards who contacted them this weekend about the changes. Our direct flight home now has a 80-minute connection through Toronto! When I checked on air miles flight bookings there are not any westjet flights available for our dates right now. I wonder if that is why they haven't contacted us yet. I am calling the travel helpline today to find out our next steps.

It's annoying because people pay more for direct flights and now we will be stressed trying to make a 80-minute connection, through Toronto at that! FFS

I checked our Edmonton to San Diego flights for end of February, CANCELLED! Had to call and get it all rescheduled. We can’t come home until a day after our cruise now, costing us about $600 more for hotel, taxis and food, ugh!

I don't typically book airfare this far out for this reason. I only booked it because my sister booked theirs so I said "eff it" and booked.

You should request that the airline cover your costs for hotel etc.

This is unsettling. I watch flightaware daily to see if "our" flight takes off on time (same WestJet flight time every day)....but to have it cancelled or changed and without notice We fly out in a couple weeks. The time did change once from original booking but it's been at current time for bit now.

The latest BS I see airlines pulling is that they're just "delaying" flights by 30 mins at a time, over and over, dragging it out past the time limit which would require them to provide compensation.

The best option I found was leaving a day later. My only concern is they will cancel that flight as well.

The one they offered us would have left us stuck in Vancouver overnight because it was to late to get the last ferry home to Vancouver Island.

I’m leaning on doing a flight from the island with an overnight layover in Vancouver. They still have a direct flight scheduled for the Sunday morning.

Coming home will be a long layover though Calgary but we wouldn’t have to take the ferry since it flys back to Nanaimo. Just will have to pack a car seat and stroller with us.

Guess it is time to book a call back and see what they say.

I don’t think I have ever had an email for any changes west jet has made over the years. One time I found out the flights changed when I went to check in to fly home from Mexico. Nightmare . Now I check the app all the time

I'm doing the same. We fly a week from tomorrow and I keep checking. I also look to see how delayed the flight is every day (usually about 10 min which is great). But I'm so nervous something will change in the next week! My flight time did change once a while ago too. Are you by any chance flying out of Pearson at 10:15am? That's the flight I'm keeping my eye on.

Yes...exactly. I think the flight started at 9:45am, but changed to 10:15am.
Have been seeing the same. There was one cancellation a few weeks ago, but fingers crossed, it hasn't been delayed too much.

Wow!!
I thought when a change was made or a flight cancelled the Airline emailed the customer.
I just checked my Jan 2023 flight and the direct return flight is cancelled (MCO-YYZ) with no email notification at all.!!!
I called and asked for a call back and 5 minutes later got one...well it is after midnight here....
Anyhow they re booked me on a flight departing later in the day,,,(more pool sunshine time).
I am just shocked that I wouldn't have known if it were not for this thread.

Westjet blamed AirMiles for us not receiving an email that they had cancelled and rescheduled our flights (on to flight combos that had us on two flights at the same time no less). Our friends who are on the same itinerary and booked directly through Westjet didn't receive an email either so I'm pretty sure it wasn't Air Miles' fault.

Thanks for the heads up. Ours has changed in October. It's the layover in Toronto, and the connecting flight now leaves later by about an hour or better. The layover is over 3 hours now, instead of 2. I'm good with that change, but it would have been nice to have had some notice.

Meaning there are no longer ANY direct flights on the weekends from YHZ to MCO. Pre Covid we had multiple options on multiple airlines .

Our November/December directs from Halifax were just changed thus weekend on us. Connecting through YYZ both ways now.
