Just received an e-mail from Westjet that my November flight out of Hamilton has been cancelled. Apparently they are are discontinuing the flight.

Spoke with an agent who offered me any of the Westjet flights out of Toronto or a full refund. Took the flight out of YYZ as the flight times are good, and i'm in KW, so it's pretty much the same distance to either airport. I like flying out of Hamilton but on the bright side i'll be pre-cleared for customs so that will be nice!

Just wanted to put this out there in case any of you were considering this flight or for some reason didn't receive an e-mail about your itinerary change.

Same thing has happened to us. We switched to a Toronto flight that has a much higher price tag than what we paid for Hamilton (but didn't have to pay the difference, of course).

That's very annoying.

In your place, I would certainly price out flights from Buffalo or Niagara Falls (Allegiant flies from IAG for about $210US return but only during the week, a lot of direct and non-direct flights from BUF starting at about $250CND but depends a lot on when and who you fly with (most flights are probably around $350CND))

I live in Hamilton and never found the flights from here convenient. I always flew from buffalo. Lately I have been looking at flights from toronto though because it's easier to get there.

I did just read that Swoop airlines will be flying out of Hamilton to Orlando 3 times a week starting in October. The prices there are 119 and the prices return starts at 99. This might be the push I was waiting for to get an annual pass

Same thing happened to us for a flight in Jan 2017 but out of KW. I found out in my morning e-mail from CHYM!!! Same thing, switch to any flight out of Pearson and eventually it ended up being a connecting flight thru La Guardia due to a freezing rain storm. I wasn't impressed that Westjet never let me know .. checked my online itinerary and it simply said "cancelled", can't imagine what would have happened if i had waited till the 24 hr mark to check in

Side note, we just took our daughter & her wife to Hamilton on Saturday for a flight to Halifax and i would MUCH rather drive to Pearson!!! Airport is smaller & easier to navigate but the drive was brutal. Some of the issues won't be there in November (amazing how many people go to the safari on a Saturday, took us almost 20 minutes to go about 10 Km) and there was a LOT of construction that meant a rather confusing detour. Could just be that we know the drive to YYZ like the back of our hands but even if you wanted to take back roads to avoid all the highways & soo many merges it's just not possible to get around the water! I'm sure you're aware of those issues though since you live in the area! Hubby needs to go to Vancouver in a couple of weeks and we chose KW for the convenience. Price wasn't a whole lot more and we can be there in under 25 minutes without him needing to be there stupid early.

As someone mentioned above, this is because Swoop is now operating flights to MCO out of Hamilton.

Sorry your flight was cancelled though, great customer service eh :sad2:

Hmmm...makes me wonder if Swoop will direct to MCO from Edmonton. They announced direct to Arizona and Vegas. I guess a girl can dream!!!

For now Edmonton will be getting Swoop service to Vegas and Mesa, AZ. When swoop first started up I signed up for their newsletter and they asked me to do a survey. One of the questions was about what routes I'd like them to fly. I told them Orlando, Orlando, and Orlando. God knows the Westjet nonstop that I was watching for our March Break is prohibitively expensive at around $1700 per person. That's why we're going in January and flying with United for less than $500 per person.

One day we may try the Swoop flights from Hamilton. We have family in the area so flying from YEG the day before, staying with them and flying to MCO the next day could be quite doable if the prices work out.

I wonder if you got caught in the traffic mess they were describing for people going to see a sunflower field farm on Hwy 6. Apparently cars parked on the side of the road up to 1 km from the farm.

Thanks for posting about Swoop. Had a look at their website and have some "good" pricing at Christmas and March Break (relatively speaking, compared to WJ and AC from Toronto) but be careful it's for seat only - they are charging more for carry-on than checked bag.

Thank you for posting about this. 2 weeks ago I had looked into Westjet from Hamilton, pricing was $1600 for the 3 of us, plus luggage and seat selection costs.
Swoop was $849, adding in seat selction and luggage, we are paying $1150. So we booked.
Way cheaper and more convenient since we live 5 minutes from the airport.

:yay:

Because Swoop is now in Hamilton instead of driving to Fort Lauderdale in November for my cruise we are flying down and I get 2 nights at Disney. Only ended up adding a couple hundred to our budget.
