Is that what it's called??? The new cut off from the south-bound Florida Turnpike? The last time we traveled; it wasn't open yet. Can anybody out there give me any info on this route. Such as;

Is it shorter than taking the turnpike to I-4?
Where on the turnpike is it?
What exit number from the turnpike is it?
Is it actually called Western Way or do I have the name wrong?
Once you get off the turnpike at this exit; How far is it to the world?
Any stores or gas along the way once off the turnpike?

I usually take the turnpike to 4 so I can drive through the Main Gates. Sort of a ritual for PF and me. But if this new route will save a decent amount of time; I might forsake my entrance through the gates.

I leave in 18 hours. I hope someone can help!! TIA :thumbsup2

Coming south on I-75 get on the turnpike. Then look for the Rte 429 to Tampa interchange and get off southbound. After about 10 miles (no lights except for a toll plaza) you come to the Disney/Hartzog interchange. Get off here, turn left, and you are now on Western Way into Disney and you will end up near Blizzard Beach.

429 to Western Way is a quicker route to Disney only if you are coming from due north (local area) or from the northwest.

No services or gas stations along this route.

After you get off 429 and make the left, there are entrance gates welcoming you to Disney. With the additional entrances at 535, 536 (to Epcot) and Osceola Parkway, the biggest gate at the Rte 192 entrance is no longer the fastest route for most folks.

hey...thanks for the quick reply. i was underthe impression that it was just one road from the turnpike. does this route actually save much time?

It is called 429 (southbound) and yes it is shorter than taking the turnpike to I-4

Not really- once you get off the turnpike its a straight shot to disney
only about 3 exits if I recall correctly

great map...thanx. just printed it out.
one more question for yall.
we've always stayed at all-stars and pop. and i know my way to all of these via 4.

anybody know the directions from western way to POR??

The road will take you to West Buena Vista Dr near Coronado Springs.

Turn right if going to All-Stars or Animal Kingdom Lodge, turn left if going anywhere else, then follow the Disney signs to your destination.

I-75 S

Get off at exit 328 (approximately 140 miles from Georgia/Florida State Line, approximately 107 miles from I-10)

Travel on Florida Turnpike to Exit 267A (429S) (approximately 42 miles)

Travel on 429S to Exit 8 (Disney World/Hartzog Rd) (approximately 14 miles)

This road will take you to West Buena Vista Dr near Coronado Springs.

Turn right if going to All-Stars or Animal Kingdom Lodge, turn left if going anywhere else, then follow the Disney signs to your destination.

Tolls on the main Turnpike will be $2.50 for a standard vehicle. (More if pulling a trailer).

Tolls on 429S to Disney World will be just $1.00 as the Disney World Exit doesn't appear to charge a toll.

(I based the mileage on the exit numbers as they coincide with mile markers).

are these tolls all at 'manned' booths? i ask because i've had to 'run' toll booths before when there was no warning that the booth only accepted change. i just want to be prepared.TIA

I always have a roll of quarters in my car for driving trips just for that purpose!!!

Yes, the toll booth on 429 is manned (also sun pass express lanes). Some of the exits that require a toll are not manned, but the Disney exit does not have a toll. Surprisingly, the Disney exit is just before another toll. (As opposed to just after another toll).

Also, the toll on the turnpike is a manned toll booth.

Note, the map does not show the road connecting into Disney, but it does connect. It's the exit just before the second toll on the map.

The toll plaza on Florida's Turnpike AND the toll plaza on TOLL 429 are both staffed.

When you're on the Turnpike the exit for the 429 does not yet refer to Disney World. It just says APOPKA/TAMPA and you exit and get on the ramp for TOLL 429 "south" to Tampa. This new road is called the Western Beltway although the sign on the Turnpike will only refer to TOLL 429.

As stated before, when you get to the HARTZOG ROAD/WALT DISNEY WORLD exit that's where you get off. However SeashoreCM mentioned that you turn left off the 429 onto Western Way and that is technically incorrect. The ramp off the 429 loops around to your right such that you do head EAST into WDW but you're really not making a left turn because of the loop. If this makes no sense, don't worry. Just follow the signs and you'll be in the land of the Mouse.

I feel the 429 to Western Way does save time for many areas of WDW, especially anything near Animal Kingdom or west of World Drive. If you're staying on Hotel Plaza Blvd or any of the hotels on 535, I think the Turnpike to I-4 is still better.
