No, it's not as bad as it sounds.

I just got back from lunch and got a message from Dreams Unlimited that DCL would have to increase the prices on the Western itinerary due to tax increases in Key West and Grand Cayman. The gist of it is that beginning April 10, 2004, the per-passenger cost at Key West has increased $2.63 and at Georgetown, Grand Cayman, it has increased $1.00.

So, expect to pay an additional $3.63 in government taxes and fees starting in Aril. Fortunately, my next cruise is an Eastern, so I can use that $3.63, plus 11 cents of my own money, and buy myself a beer!

if u already have a cruise booked , will u have to pay increase
we have one booked for October.. not paid off yet ....

That wasn't really clear to me. The mail said that depending on when you booked, the price may already reflect the changes. My general take was that yes, even existing bookings will be affected.

We booked our western cruise for this coming August, last August, and a couple of months ago I saw that our TA increased our price by $4. (total, not per person). I wonder if this is the same increase you are talking about??

They would not do that would they ?????
Should Be for new Bookings???

Dear Dreams Unlimited Travel Client

Disney Cruise Line has announced an increase in the government taxes and fees on the Disney Magic 7-Night Cruise-Only Western Itinerary sailings commencing April 10, 2004 and beyond. The government taxes and fees paid to Key West are increasing by $2.63 per person, and the government taxes and fees paid to Grand Cayman are increasing by $1.00 per person.

Depending upon when you booked your cruise with Dreams Unlimited Travel, these increases may already be included in your pricing.

I to got the email......

DCL has no control over taxes! Does not matter if you've booked yet or not!
I'm sailing in Sept. and received my notice some time ago!
When the government wants to add taxes there is never anything you can do about it......except pay!

Just be glad it's not more of an increase!

From the letter I received:
"The port of Grand Cayman has recently increased the per person amount charged for Government Taxes and Fees for our ship to visit the island effective January 1,2004"

I just paid the final bill for the May 8th cruise and I was charged a few dollars more per person. I assumed it was for the increase in taxes as well.

I could be way off, but if you had it paid in full before the increase went into effect, then I am guessing that you wouldn't be charged the additional, and DCL would pay the increase in port taxes on your behalf. If you hadn't paid off in full, then the rate could be adjusted to include the additional charges.

If only that would be true Sue.
However, I think that if Disney did if for one, then, well, you know how that goes. So I seriously doubt DCL is going to go out of pocket on anyones behalf. Most likely, if you're already paid in full, they'll bill you or ask for it at embarkation.

The email that I received said that it was effective with sailings after April 10, 2004. The government is increasing the taxes, not DCL.

I booked from a local travel agent, over a year ago, for our May 22 Western Cruise......and over a month ago I received a letter from them along with a letter from Disney stating the increase 'due to unforeseen port taxes' on the Western Itinerary. I dont' recall the exact amount, but it wasn't much.
