Any good ideas for what my 4 year old can wear to "western day" at Pre-K this Friday? The closest I can get with clothes is a pair of jeans and a denim shirt. I don't have a lot of money to spend, so things I can make up from what I have would be great. Any ideas where you can get a really cheap kids cowboy hat?

TIA

The only thing I can think of is a bandana scarf.

Bandana would be an inexpensive touch. Does dad have a big belt buckle??

wish we lived closer i could fix aidfen up, might try the toy dept at wal mart or target for a cheep cowboy play set...

Hi I would go to a party store.
you can get some cheap stuff there. You will definately need a bandana for around the neck, cheap hat. You could make a sheriff's badge out of card board and alum. foil. Do you have any old vest that are rather plain? Don't know if you sew but they are very easy to make with out even a pattern. what about an hold belt with a good size buckle? Boots? you could make little card board spurs just round things out of cardboard and aluminum foil then a little rubber band or something to hold it on the shoes. I love to make costumes! LOL!

That's a good idea, I need to run up to Walmart anyways for dog food tomorrow.

If you've got a Goodwill or Salvation Army in town you could check there for cheap cowboy boots, hat, bandana, big belt buckle, etc. for dress up stuff. I always go to thrift stores for costume/dress up things, and I usually can come up with a cute outfit for less than $10 - often for less than $5.

If you have a party store close to your home, they usually have cowboy hats for a dollar or two. The store I was at also had sheriff badges.

If you dont want to shop for anything, you can probably find a dishtowel that you can use as a bandana, and make one of those bolo type ties out of a shoestring. make a cardboard star that says sheriff. the western theme could mean native american too. Headband and beads , anything with fringe or fur woud probably work.

if you have a dollar tree near you, they might even have something in the toy dept you could use.

I think jeans and a demin shirt is great. If want to dude up more, that's fine, but I'm sure it's not necessary! I agree that a bandana and/or a pretend sheriff badge would be a great touch.

Thank you, you all have given me a lot of ideas! He really wants to look like Woody from Toy Story, so I'll probably be using a lot of these.

I'm close by, I can get you a woody hat if you want! Just PM me. Have a woody and a bullseye costume, but I think Aiden's too big for them.

Thanks for all the great ideas! (And Suzanne, thanks for the hat. :goodvibes )
