Can someone tell about their experience with the Western Caribbean cruise? What are some of the better excursions at each port? My husband and I are thinking of booking this cruise next year for our anniversary. No kiddos this trip! Any advice and recommendations will be appreciated.

Would also be interested in this as we just booked it while on the Wonder to Alaska......already planning for next year!

In Cozumel for our 25th anniversary, DW and I rented a jeep from one of the car rental companies near the port. We spent the day traveling around the island on our own, got away to some of the out of the way places, and ate lunch and snacks when and where we wanted. If you speak spanish, you can use that to your advantage by just being friendly and willing to spend a few minutes talking with the locals. One thing we wish we had done was take our bathing suits with us, to go swimming.

Be flexible. In Cozumel our reserved excursion (and many others) were canceled due to rough seas. We booked an alternate onboard and that too was canceled when it began to rain. We ended up hiring a van driver off the street and for $40 he drove us around the island for 2 hours -- my family of 3, and only us. And he stopped whenever we wanted, and only when we wanted. Flexibility is NOT my strength, as I imagine most people on here can say! But we never could have seen as much of Cozumel any other way. We had the driver drive us by his house, his parents' house, the school his daughter attends and places that a scheduled tour would never expose us to.

We did the trolley tour at Key West, but got off whenever we wanted and stopped at bars and a beach. We booked that online, not through DCL.

We stayed on the ship at Grand Caymen.

At Castaway Cay, we booked the snorkel, float and bike package. We would recommend that you do less. We biked for an hour, snorkeled until we were freezing, and floated. But we really had no time for anything else. Looking back, we decided next time we'll do less and enjoy beach time more.

Have fun. You'll love it!
