who's done WC in late february? looking for weather information. any feedback appreciated! any chance of rainfall, etc.? totally beach weather or will it be a bit cool?

TIA!

We did WC on the Fantasy in early February 2015. No rain, beautiful weather all the way. People were using the pools, we did the river swim in Xcaret and spent the day at the beach at Castaway Cay. Meanwhile, this year, Castaway Cay was windy and quite cool in early March. We went back to the ship after lunch because being outside in bathing suits was not enjoyable.

Interesting, but good to know. I guess you just never know with Mother Nature. The late Feb 2018 WC cruise (Wonder) is about $1k less than the late April 2018 WC cruise (Fantasy). Was hoping to book a cruise soon, just don't know which one!

Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Jamaica (assuming it's on that specific itinerary) all should be very warm and (mostly) sunny. Florida and Castaway Cay (Bahamas) may be sunny but could be cool as well; it just depends.

Yes, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica. The internet says decent weather in February but wanted to get first hand experience during February (and April). And I'd love to save $1k, but maybe it's worth it if the weather will be 'better' in April?!

Decisions, decisions!!

We've done the last week in January for the western loop. Grand Cayman and Jamaica were just fine. Cozumel was cooler and overcast. A cold front had just come through Texas the day before and you could feel the effects in Mexico. I think had it been sunny and 75, it would have felt great. But it was overcast and 75 and the pools and ocean water was colder than I like.

You will have the same weather (or chances of bad weather) in Mexico and Grand Cayman on both cruises. The weather at Castaway Cay is more uncertain in late February than in late April. Is it worth 1k$ more ? If that was my only consideration, I would choose the February cruise. Did you price the flights/hotels to MCO/PC for that period of the year ? Spring break might have an influence on your overall cost.

Good point, Marc, about the flights. We are flying from Seattle, so it'll be pricey overall....but i just looked at Expedia and for the same time of the year next year, February was slightly cheaper.

This! :) Unfortunately...there are no guarantees with mother nature, but we sailed on the Magic Presidents Day week of 2015. The weather was beautiful at Castaway Cay. The temperatures were not scorching, but they were not cold either. Perfect IMO. But, that being said, the water was too chilly. Basically spent zero time in the water because of this. I will say that February is still the dry season for us here in tropical climates, so the chances of rain are very slim. Your biggest concern is water temperature.

YES! i guess i should be more specific. my girls LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the beach and it would be a total bummer if they couldn't play in the water at CC. So late April, the water temps are warmer, right? That in itself might be worth the extra $1k?!

i wish the decision making process was easier! LOL

Here is what I will say. The water temperature will be starting to get warmer in April, but may not be much better yet. The true water temperature changes occur closer to late May. The air temperature would be slightly warmer as well. However, you are beginning to head into wet season in the tropics at that point, so....it's a trade off. Slightly warmer water = slightly higher chance of rain. Cooler water = dry air and little change of rain. My DD (8 at the time) felt the water was too chilly, but she still made it out to Pelican Plunge once. DS (15 at the time), on the other hand, participated in the Wild Side Teen Excursion on CC and they go snorkeling and speed boating and he still had a wonderful time, even though the water was chilly.

It is all about priorities. The $1k would be hard for me to part with for the same cruise, when I could be using that for fruity drinks and port adventures, etc. But, you have to do what works best for you. :) Also, keep in mind that we are Florida residents and my DD is born and raised Floridian. Our tolerance (or lack there of) could be a symptom of that. LOL

thanks for the input! i just realized the late feb sailing is costa maya and the late april sailing is jamaica. any thoughts on those ports? i am leaning towards jamaica (which would be the $1k more). by 2018, i'll have dd11, dd10, and dd6. i guess i should look into port excursions to compare the two areas and which would be better for my girls.

I would look at the port adventures for each one. I have been to Cozumel, not Costa Maya, so I have no experience with that one, and I have not been to Jamaica, but I have not heard great things. People say the excursions are nice, but outside of one of those, don't leave the port! :)

This! I feel it depends a lot on where you are from and what you are used to. I am from New Jersey and now live in New England, so my sons and I have a pretty high tolerance for low water temperatures, but if you are used to bath tube temperatures in the ocean, it may well feel too cold.

We'll be in Falmouth in March and we will not get off the ship. My idea of a fun port day does not include Margaritaville, police escorts or getting offers from pot dealers. We're planning on going on the Aquaduck in loops that day.

We love Costa Maya. It's a small quiet but safe down. We found a place where we can reserve a couple loungers and umbrellas for free on the beach, you can buy food and drinks, $30 for an hour massage on the beach. So relaxing. We booked the Feb 11 2018 Wonder cruise specifically because it's going to Costa Maya.

Your making it sound like it's not safe to get off in Jamaica

Your making it sound like it's not safe to get off in Jamaica
Jamaica, in the last 15 years, has had one of the highest, if not the highest, murder rate in the world. And the last time I visited the country, I was offered pot, for the first of many times, between the door of the airport and the bus taking us to our resort, 40 feet away. The port in Falmouth is fenced-off from the real world and is perfectly safe, but, as I said, a Diamond International store and Margaritaville are not worth getting off the ship for. I'm also convinced that people on excursions are well protected and won't see crimes being committed.

The feeling of safety is a very personal thing. While I live in a big city and walk around NYC, D.C. and S.F. without a worry, I prefer not to visit countries where the rule of law is not enforced up to a certain level.
