Well, like they all say, "It's a dry heat"...

Earlier this week when I was in Scottsdale, I was walking from my car to the movie theater and my skin felt like it was going to spontaneously burst into flames. The word "searing" comes to mind...

like this :furious:

i've never heard of that movie, who's in it?

It got 88% good reviews on the "TomatoMeter".

Here's a synopsis from Rotten Tomatoes:

Synopsis: As early as autumn 2006, surreal and hilarious video clips of Stephen Walker's documentary (which originally aired on the BBC) were making the rounds on YouTube and in email inboxes all over the U.S.--tantalizing, out-of-context glimpses of the Young@Heart vocal choir, composed of elderly men and women, having a go at chestnuts by Sonic Youth, the Clash, and the Ramones. It seemed that the feature film, re-released for the screen in 2008, would perhaps be an uncomfortably comic look at a bunch of geezers set up to look ridiculous for the smug delectation of hipster audiences everywhere. The reality is not so far off-base, at least on first glance, but Walker's film, tracking the progress of the chorus as they prepare for a big gig, provides enough good-natured humor, personal narrative, and intimate details to inspire respect and admiration--and some major heart-string-plucking--in filmgoers. Viewers witness the blossoming of long-buried or completely latent musical talents in the elderly folks; learning the new, unfamiliar material, under the direction of irascible 50-something conductor Bob Cilman, keeps their neurons firing and their emotions kindled, while communing with and trusting each other staves off the isolating effects of old age, even as they cope with heartbreaking losses within their ranks. It is undeniably funny to watch them struggle with the more challenging punk, classic rock, and soul songs as their leader kvetches wearily, but Walker skillfully ensures that, by the end of the film, we are laughing with the intrepid Young@Hearters, and not at them.

Hi Tracy!!!:yay: :yay: :yay:

I'll be at WDW right before then--Dec. 2--6. Bummer!!!

Oh, shoot! I would have loved to hook up with you there. But I know you'll be visiting Mickey here at DL one of these days and we'll plan to zip on over then. We only live about 30 min. away.

Darn it, every time I think I'll pop on for a few minutes and catch up before posting, I get distracted with something else. I've given up on tyring to catch up before posting. I'm just gonna jump on in here. We're firmly entrenched back into "normal" life, although almost every day one of us says, "I miss the ship...." (Or in Erik's case, " I miss MY ship..." Tis the season here and every weekend we've had multiple graduation parties to attend. Life is just SO busy. I miss the quiet "nothing pressing to do" days on the Magic, sitting in a lounge chair looking for green lanyards!

OH, Deb, I'm SO sorry they're bothering you again! You looked like they were doing well when we saw you with Woody in Redondo Beach. I'll keep you in my prayers!

Hmm.. Is this the free deal you mentioned yesterday? Is that going on at all Coldstones or just there in Michigan? Maybe I should hop on over to my local one and ask. A & W had free root beer floats on Monday! YUM! Haven't had one of those in YEARS!

I just figured I was behind the times! They have the Blacberry Pearl, and the Blackberry Curve, and I just figured they were calling this one the Raspberry!!! Shows you how much I know!

Hey, it can be like a progressive dinner! A progressive vacation! I LIKE IT! I vote for Marilyn's house....Oh, wait...that's right we're too broke to get there....HMMM... Nan's? Oh, wait, they're on fire up there......I guess we'll have to start at your house!!!! Break out the poker chips!

I must have missed something in my frantic skimming! What happened to hiring the neighbor boy for $15? Sounds like a great deal to me!

My best friend always told her kids (and mine!), "You're not bored, you're BORING!" Now all of our kids know better than to use the "b" word or they'll get that lecture!

Okay, I'm going to TRY to keep up here.

Unfortunately we're not going to make it on the Tortola cruise after all. We "have" to go to Hawaii next year for Alison's choir concert, so that's going to eat up all the vacation $$ for then.

We ARE going to WDW this December (8-16) to christen our brand new DVC membership! Anyone going to be there during that time???

Missing everyone!

Poker at Gaylean and Jon's house :dance3: You wouldn't need to stay over, you live close ::yes:: But you can come for the poker!

I told Brooke to clean her room the last time she told me she bored and she hasn't said it since. Of course she is napping :confused3

THIS is what happens when you Miracle-gro the weeds!!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

So we can't have the slumber party in August then because it is hotter!

I thought it was worse on CC than in Scottsdale. You have to remember there isn't any humidity.

Well, it's apples and oranges to me. Humid heat is miserable, no doubt about it. But the summer heat in Phoenix can just suck the breath right out of me. And if you have to drive, meaning parking and getting in and out of a hot car, not just driving from point A to point B, it's especially horrendous. They say that the temp in a parked car gets up to 130º+ in a very short time.

Are you coming in Sept. when Ian and Sukie are coming out to get married?

I just want to take a moment to thank everyone for being so wonderful.

Eighteen months ago, all I thought I was doing was booking a cruise. I never thought I'd be making so many new friends.

twas me that asked for the mascot picture- thanks...

Chip&Dale&Fun (me) and Sam (DH) are holding Hedgie - DHH (Disney Hedgehog) in the mascot picture...I am the one with the red hair...and the lanyard with Chip N Dale pins ...as if you could see that...

THATS YOU! I saw you once or twice around the ship!

Yeah... and I had woods in the back and we built forts and ran barefoot all the time... now you need steel toed shoes and a tetanus shot!!!

...and rode bicycles without helmets and skated without pads.....

Well, like they all say, "It's a dry heat"...

Earlier this week when I was in Scottsdale, I was walking from my car to the movie theater and my skin felt like it was going to spontaneously burst into flames. The word "searing" comes to mind...

Actually, those first few moments out of the theater in the sun are great...as you are chilled to the bone from the over airconditioned theaters. But that warm up feeling is long gone by the time you get the car started and are waiting for the airconditioning to get going! :lmao:

But are you coming? Where is Jackie? You can talk her into it like she begged you into it!

Hey....I was one of the first to say "I'll be there" (though it may have been in a PM and not a post). Already got my vacation approved and will be booking hotel this weekend. Cheri...Peacock Suites 2 bedroom OK with you if I can get if FOR FREE!!! ???? Lemme know your thoughts.

Deb...take care of those legs!!

I'm outta here....heading to Peg's for a swim...unless some restaurant catches my attention on the way over.

Cheri, call me on my cell if you want...

See you kids in the morning

Poker at Gaylean and Jon's house :dance3: You wouldn't need to stay over, you live close ::yes:: But you can come for the poker!

But then it doesn't feel like a vacation! :( I was counting on you turning down the sheets and making me towel animals at night! :duck: SIGH... I guess I'll have to settle for poker (Of course, I don't actually PLAY poker, so I'll just have to watch! (and drink, of course!))

My room is booked already...gaylean gets the leftovers...or maybe we'll put the kids in one room and hmm..I can't think of the word from the cruise...what was that?

You just can't spell it :lmao: menajetua??? I'm sure that's wrong too! But I snore just to warn you.

You need to bring some of that wine with you too. It has to be good if it's called that!
