HI Gaylean!

Bubba has been asking for pictures so I'm in the process of getting some of those over to him. Tried to e-mail them but for some reason they are not going across. Now to find that disk I made.

I did however, post this picture of me attempting the Russian Dance in Rocking Bar D:

IMG_9541.jpg

and here's another one of me keeping count of my "shots around the ship"

IMG_9483.jpg

I am only posting these because I'm not sure if anyone would appreciate me posting evidence......um pictures. :teeth:

woo hoo. You're crazy. Your friends on the other cruise are going to wonder about you!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wondered because a few of the people I was interested in contacting never posted again. I knew she would NEVER do that to me! What happened with that job she wanted?

No she won't by any means! She wants to keep the friendship up and running. Perhaps send her an e-mail as she might be able to respond directly more easily than following this thread at this time.

As for the job she wanted ... well before the cruise she actually had two interviews, both with the same Provincial Government Ministry.

There was one she really wanted, but she came second, and the other one she didn't finish in the top 3.

However, when we got home, I found out the person who got the first one, quit. The person who interviewed her was going to offer Shannon the job, but then her bosses found out that Shannon was my wife and I work quite closely with that Provincial Ministry and they thought it was too close to a potential conflict of interest so they nixed her being able to compete for the position.

So it's back to square one in the job hunt.

Here's another one of Marr I think but not sure who she's with. I promised her a picture before we left the ship and I dropped the ball.

Shaelyn was telling me she was upset today because she missed the releasing of a butterfly at school.

Apparently while she was away they were learning about butterflies at school (all of her homework on the cruise was to do with butterflies and keeping a journal). As I understand that had a cocoon at school they were watching and I guess it "hatched" while she was away and they released the butterfly.

I asked her if she would have rather gone to school or gone on the cruise and she said "I want to do both".

Hmm maybe time to create a floating school! LOL

Molly's final reflection on her paper was something like, I'd rather have stayed in school and worked on this than do it on vacation. Warped I tell ya, warped..

Ouch that's a tough one to deal with at that age. I got home to find out one of my staff members lost her husband to a heart attack, just a few days after having surgery to help with his having contracted cancer. You should take pride in having a daughter that is so eager to try and help her friends! That is so nice to hear that she really wanted to help her friend rather be on the cruise. Her heart is certainly in the right place. Congratulate yourself and Jon for doing the right things!

As for the butterlfies, we didn't know about the butterflies at school until we were leaving for the ship so we didn't bother with the butterfly farm excursion. I think there is a farm in Victoria so we may take the girls there this summer.

That is if we don't crash a party I hear is happening in Monterey. We did say we wanted to go back there when we drove through in 2005!

Both of my kids are really nice to their friends. I am super lucky (in that way) I would love for you to crash the party in Monterey. Please please please. I don't know when. Nan is going to PM but who knows when that will happen!!!!!!! :lmao:

We might be there next Friday. I'll post when we know for sure.

I am not sure I will be there next Friday. This Friday is Pintrading Night, so I will be there for sure trying to trade some of the cruise pins. If you are going to be there come by say hi. I will be in my Panama stuff. Who knows though. We usally go on Fridays so you never know, but with gas prices and on board bills, Not sure if I can swing two days in a row.

:furious: I love that smile

you are always welcome to my neighborhood, seems since it's just 1.5 hours away for us, it's close :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

have you thought about getting the girls some of the butterflies they can grow on their own? We did it for Molly when she was 6 or 7 it was a great learning lesson. check out what they sell on the web and I'll try to find the one we used. all of our caterpilers grew to butterflies, I think 10 or 12 of them.

dates not even discussed....I'm open suggest some.

By "room" do you mean you sometimes have to physically back up since you can't zoom out with the lens? (I need things in simple terms ;) )

Yes with no zoom, you have to use "foot" zoom by physically moving in and out.

ONe way to look at it is to use your 18-55 lens. "Zoom" out so the focal length is at the 50 (you can see your focal length on the outside of the lens where the numbers are on the top). Look through the lens and look at an object. Now zoom out to 18 (all the way open with "no zoom") and you can see the difference.

Take an object or frame a picture that would look good at the 18mm focal length (no zooming on your lens) and now "zoom in" to the 50mm focal length and see the difference. Now using your " foot zoom" see how far back you have to be frame the same shot without touching your zoom.

An example of this can be seen in these pictures from the Pirate and Princess Party on May 9th.

In this first pic is the one I took using my 50mm lens from the exact spot the Disney photographer took their picture. In fact I think I was 2 or 3 steps back so this is as far back as I could be:
172138.jpg

In contrast this is the pic the Disney Photographer took a little closer up but obviously with a smaller focal length:
202240.jpg

My lens allowed me to take the pic without a flash which helped some of the lights show better, but at a loss of the wide angle. Ideally I would have had a fast (meaning large aperture - small f#) lens with a smaller focal point - but those get pretty expensive and I don't know how many are actually out there.

Hopefully that helps a bit.

That is Tiffany, the nanny and party animal!

Sorry Gaylean - had to clean up the spew afer hearing Tiffany was the party animal. LOL But either way, Marr gave us a good idea about bringing red bull on the ship.

BTW, my friends already have me tagged as a party animal. Seems that some posters on the WB have posted pictures on the thread which many people have been visiting. Seems the WB has set the bar on fun way too high! :rotfl:

 BTW, someone was talking about poker on their blog and mentioned the people winning. Let me apologize, I told him to play nice but I did warn you all that DH is unnaturally lucky when it comes to cards. We haven't paid for a room in Vegas in about oh - several year now.

Please don't hold him against me. :flower3:

Did he win? I think a lot of people won, don't worry about it.

Yes, I thought that's what you meant but your explanations really clarified it for me, especially by showing the 2 photos to compare and contrast. I don't know the technical terms for those things but I have a general idea of how they work. Thanks for taking the time to write out such a clear description!

I like the capability of taking the picture without a flash. There are a lot of shots at DL that I think look much better when you can do that.

What are the exact specs of your lens?

1.5 hours away! That's my commute to work!

I'm not really worried about the butterflies. The teacher will move on to the next subject and Shaelyn will get completely absorbed into that and forget all about them.

She's having fun showing her friends the pics from the trip, so I think deep down the trip still took precedence to her.

I understand what you say about being on the next thing, but I do believe the lesson of the life cycle of the butterfly is a very important one for a young child to grasp and hold and then understand. For both my children we have come back to talk and share of those lessons many times in many different areas of our lives. Sometimes a butterfly can just be a butterfly, but it can also be alot larger if we open ourselves to the idea.;)

Yep you even came up on deck with a couple looking for the Ballroom under the stars.

Oh yes and walked by that same couple in Disneyland. They waved and said hi as they were going into Frontierland and you were headed into the hub.
:rotfl:

When you walked past me chatting to Kelly in the DCL desk line and iIheard who you were, I called you back to say hi as I hadn't met you all cruise.!!! See, I am friendly when not preoccupied.:lmao:

I tried to say hi to the people I saw, too. It was sometimes embarrassing because I wouldn't remember that we'd already met! Yikes! Or I couldn't remember their names! At least I was being friendly, right?:rotfl:

That was me too!! People kept saying they had already said hi to me!!

Hi guys!!

I am feeling better....but still have a little way to go.

DC has had bad tornados today and tonight. Gretcehn and Annie go to different schools and both schools had to go into "tornado position" or 45 minutes each. In the hallway, on their knees, with their arms over their head. No damage right in Centreville, but 10 miles away people did die!!

I think I heard there are about 1,000,000 people without power in DC Surburban MD and Surburban VA.

Schools in to neighboring counties have already closed for tomorrow. Fairfax County is still open tomorrow at this point.

That sounds so scary. We have nothing like that here. It must be frightening to think of your children being away from you when these things happen.

I would do both Hawaii and Alaska.

Actually the chatting the other night got me to looking at NCL for a Hawaiian cruise (Pride of America does a Hawaii only trip) and the excursions are very cool, I found several at each port that sounded very cool.

Pj

Hi PJ. Nice to see you.

Gaylean, diddo!!!!

Sorry to anybody I didn't say hi to, but having a slight stutter and being slightly shy I didn't quite get as brave as I wanted to on the ship. :(

Pj

Well I never noticed your stutter at all, though I thought you were quieter than I expected. I would have loved to have chatted more with you.

who can I ship Haley to first....

she wants her "him" ( and now, if I say what is Savannah's daddy's name - "I not care"....)
she wants her Sophie
she wants her Amy
she wants her PJ
she wants her John

Not sure of the order, it's become a song around here.

:rotfl2: A couple of weeks at each would get you through the summer nicely!!!

:badpc: :furious: I want something tropical and warm

Do you think all the others' fascination with Alaska is because they have all cruised so much already? We are new cruisers so haven't moved on from the sun and heat yet.

We are doing the same thing so we thought the butterfly farm would be perfect...but NO, the princess needs school :confused3

The bad news is that one of her friends lost her mom to cancer :( the doctors kept saying she would be fine but she wasn't. They never told the baby that her mom was even sick so the whole class is really shocked. Brooke keeps saying if she would have been there she could help the little girl. I try to tell her that nothing will make it better but she doesn't believe me.

That is so sad, but what a lovely child Brooke is to be so caring at such a young age.
