Hi! We are "packing slim" for our May 10 departure and I had fully intended to purchase at least one set of snorkeling gear and wet shoes for both of us (just hubby and I-no kids). Now, I'm wondering if this is really necessary. The only real reason I had planned on wet shoes is because some had suggested that the sand on Castaway is a little rough. We are on the Western and are booked for a stingray city excursion, as well as a jeep tour which takes us to a remote beach for snorkeling.

Any feedback on whether or not the gear or wet shoes should make it on my final packing list?

Anytime we head for the beach we ALWAYS wear our "water socks" / "Wet Shoes". You never know what you might step on out there. And yes we wear them into the ocean (unless we have our flippers on).

I'd definitely skip the snorkling gear. I took gear for 2 kids and DH both cruises. The only thing that got used was DH's prescription mask when we went on the Capt. Marvin's excursion. Even though I'm as blind as DH, I used the one that Marvin's provided and saw well enough. They take up LOTS of space.

For an adult, unless your feet are extremely sensitive, I think you'd be okay without water shoes. I just used my sandals even though I had packed water shoes.
