Were you smacked as a child? (NOT a debate)

I'm not talking abuse here, just an odd whack round the legs, on the backside or on the top of the hand!!!

I was smacked and so was DH - our Mum's seemed to do the smacking much more than our Dad's ever did. If your Dad gave you a smack you were in BIG trouble - LOL!!!

I know things have changed nowadays, but am curious to know if your parents were of that ilk.

I don't want this thread to turn into a debate on whether it was right or wrong. Thanks!

Nope. But keep in mind my parents were like the original hippies and were all about peace and love.

DH got hit with the belt. And his father wonders why none of his kids can stand him to this day.

I've spanked my oldest a couple of times -- once when he went to put his hand on a hot burner, and once when he ran out in front of a bus. The youngest has never done anything to warrant a spank in my eyes. DH has never spanked either of them, all he needs to do is get the stern voice and they start cooperating.

Nope, I never was...or at least any times I can remember. Maybe when I was an infant & went to touch something & got my hands tapped, but that would be about it...if that even happened.

DH was smacked ALOT! All his siblings were. With a belt, a wooden spoon, anything really.... Pretty sad. It's no wonder why he isn't close to his parents.

yep - a little wack here and there. my mom once got me with a hairbrush when i called her the B word.

Funny thing is that I never was "spanked" in the traditional sense.

Yes, I had a paddle with my name on it in the kitchen, a reminder to be a good girl! My dad didn't have to smack me, he would turn this tomato red color and a vein would pop out in his forehead, and that was scarier than any smack!

I also got my mouth washed out if I used bad language. I preferred Irish Spring to Lava.

Yes, by my father mostly. Mom did it only when pushed beyond her "limit" (which I was able to do with some frequency. )

I can honestly one remember one big time. I guess I deserved it. I lied to my parents than tried to blame it on my brother. I figured he was in trouble on the time anyways, what was one more time. But I got caught and I paid the price. Never did that again.

I was smacked once, and only once, by my mom. I am too embarrassed to admit why, but I was 14 and trust me when I say I absolutely deserved it!

My brother got the occasional smack on the butt (and as his big sis and the one most often tormented by him, trust me when I say he absolutely deserved it! ).

Yes. And it would be some long drawn out process where we would have to go to our room, think about what we did (knowing we were going to get spanked), then Dad would come in and "discuss" it, then he would bend us over his knee and spank us.

The anticipation was worse than any spanking. It didn't stop me from doing stuff though.

We got smacked across the mouth for smart-mouthing my mother if Dad wasn't around & sometimes she'd use soap instead.

Dad, on the other hand, used the belt. I can still hear him whipping it through the belt loops like Bill Cosby described.

However, unlike some of the previous posters, we're all very close to both of our parents - although I'd have to say I feel closer to my father.

My mom spanked me a few times with a metal spatula that had a star pattern on it. After the spanking, it was a little funny to check out your butt and see the star pattern in the red area. Sick, but funny.

Yes, by my mom, not my dad. My dad was so loud when he was mad and that was scarier than anything. He would also threaten us with the belt, but never used it. The fear was enough. Of course, I pushed them to their limits right up until I moved out at 22 lol. My poor parents. I am now getting it from my daughter so I know how they feel.

As for my daughter, my husband has spanked her twice, both times when she was in danger of really hurting herself. I can't bring myself to do it.
