We're Sailing to....Disneyland? Lots of Pics! GANGSTA KINGDOM 8/31

"back side of water" - I got that one!:lmao:

Great shots of Disneyland. Everything looks like it's on a much smaller scale. It's also good to see you got Donald onto some things so far - bribe or no bribe. I say, ya gotta do whatcha ya gotta do!

Minnie, on the other hand, looks like she doesn't have a care in the world!:cutie:

I'm glad some one gets my sense of humor :goodvibes Yes, I think DL is a little smaller than MK.

I'll try to do a quick update - I have alot to get done this morning, but I don't want to drag this trip out forever!

When I left off we were having a rootin' tootin' time in frontierland. Minnie and Donald were really in need of a cool off, and Tink and Goofy were not feeling the magic, since they could tell that Donald wasn't having any fun...so they decided to head back to the hotel for a nap.

Jiminy and I decided to stick around for a few rides, then meet everyone at CA after nap time!

First on our agenda was our first Dole Whip!   Now I had heard about this fabulous concoction on the disboard for a long time, but forgot to have one on my last two vacations - this time it was a quest!

We found the station right on the bridge leading back to the hub and Tomorrowland from Adventureland. There was quite a line. I think these poor folks tried to cut in line:

I went all out and ordered the float! Jiminy didn't want to order one, just wanted to share mine! I have to say it was better than I expected! Even though I was excited to try it after all I'd heard - I was expecting the pineapple to be too sweet. It was perfect! :thumbsup2 I was finally a full fledged DISer!
100_1737.jpg

We headed back to Frontierland - we were looking for some pirates!

100_1726.jpg

100_1727.jpg

I tried to film some of the ride, but it was too dark for my camera. We always love this ride. It is a little different here than in FL. Let's see - The drop is bigger, and there are two - You float through a burning ship at one point instead of the huge cave with jewels - There is a small cave part toward the beginning - then Captain Jack is sitting in a rocking chair at the end with all of his loot, singing Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho...

Right above the entrance to POC is the Magical Suite for the YOMD winners. I forgot to look up! I think that is such a cool location - the guests can look out over the water to Pirate's Lair and the Pirate ship!

We decided that if we could get Tink and Goofy to go out and have some fun this evening, it might help them feel better about the trip. So we grabbed a FP for SM and then headed over to CA.

I took some shots of Main Street along the way:

Cruella was stopped for autographs on her way out, and I was trying to take her pic - my camera was acting up, and she posed again for me so I could get it:

Next: Can they come down here????

your dole whip float has a cute little umbrella and a cherry! the ones at WDW don't. i want a cherry!!!!!

Yay! You finally got to experience a Dole Whip! They are the best! :goodvibes

I love Pirates........especially at DL! :thumbsup2

Looking forward to more........I hope Tink and Goofy start experiencing some of the magic! pixiedust:

:woohoo: for the Dole Wipp Float!!! Nice Main Streat Pics

Thanks! It was worth waiting for!

When I left you it was nap time, and Jiminy and Cindy were playing pirate and eating pineapple floats.

After getting FPs for Space Mtn for Goofy and Tink, We headed over to CA to go Soarin'! This is one of our favorite rides! We got the back row, which isn't quite as magical as the front, but still fun!

We got a bunch of photopass pics, but don't have them ordered yet. I'll have to share them here later.

We started for TOT, on the way I stopped to have a chat with my old pal Donald from our Disney cruise in 2005!

100_1753.jpg

We stopped in the Art of Animation Gallery. There were some great drawings there, and some beautiful figurines. We decided we will definately get something next March at the World and have it framed. When we came out, we decided we were'nt in the mood for "free fallin" so we walked around and took some pics of the park for my DIS friends. If you haven't been there, the theme for part of the park is like a beach pier in California - with rides and "fair food" and carnival type games - lots of sunshine and fun!

California Screamin' - you go upside down in Mickey's head - I love this one - don't know why we didn't make it over - we got FPs for Goofy and Tink:
100_1754.jpg

BTW: The FP system at DL and CA are not connected, so you can get a FP from one park and then another from the other park before the "2nd pass time" opens at the first park.

One of the billboards on the boardwalk at Paradise Pier:

The barker for TSM was giving everyone who walked by a hard time. I couldn't decide if it was interactive or just sometimes randomly on cue - does anyone know? :confused3

100_1758.jpg

The "orange stinger" swing ride Do you see the crane in the background? That is for the new construction of the VGC for DVC coming in 2010!!!!!:

It was time to meet the rest of the family for our viewing of Playhouse Disney Live Onstage! We went out the front gate to find them right on time! There were new smiles all around, and new ears, too!

We were so excited, because Donald watches these shows all the time! We headed over to Hollywood:

continued next post:

We headed into our theatre, we were seated close to the front on the floor - (not too fun for grammas! :goodvibes ) It seemed like we were all going to have a great time, and then the lights went down and the crowd warm-up guy came out. Donald started getting a little worried - he's not usually real shy, so :confused3 . Then the PD music came on just like on TV, and he climbed into Goofy's lap and started crying. By the time the character puppets came out on stage, he had lost it! "Are they going to come down here?" Jiminy took him out, and the rest of us really enjoyed the show! I think he was used to TV sized characters, these were pretty huge! This is really fun if you have little ones at home - it's just like a live episode of the cartoon! We saw Mickey and Pals, Pooh and friends and Handy Manny and tools - also Little Einsteins!

We aren't so worried about Donald's reaction anymore - we saw some other 3 yo kids acting the same way. The doctor said yesterday that this is really typical of 3 year olds, because they have a hard time separating fact from fiction, and they don't like things that don't fit their imagination or what they feel is "normal."

Next Time: "We're Melting!"

California Adventure looks awesome!!!

So much different that what I had imagined.

That's crazy about Donald being so scared at the show. It's a bummer that he missed it!

Alot of people were disappointed when CA first opened, because it's not "Disney-ish." I just don't think they get it - we love it! Some of it is a little like DHS, but most of it is "Classic California." There are probably more things for small children to do at this park than DL! I think they are putting in more things like TSM and the Cars Land to try to attract more crowds who are looking for Disney themes.

Mmmmm - Tammie - that Dole Whip looks delish! I forgot to get one in June; will now put it on my list for Nov.

And regarding the Mr.Potato Head barker for TSM; I can say with certainty (because we got stuck in that line for 80 minutes!) that it's not interactive like Turtle Talk with Crush - it's a pre-programmed. After awhile, we were hearing the same routine over and over again!

In our last report, some of us were enjoying Playhouse Disney. We left the theatre, and headed out toward Brother Bear's area. Along the way, we met some friends:

We realized they were preparing for a parade! We happened to have stopped right in front of a trash can in an area that was roped off for through traffic only. A great CM talked with us and told us to just stay right there - he wouldn't let anyone get in front of us, he just stood in front of us and waved everyone through - Front row seats without jostling for them! :thumbsup2

100_1780.jpg

100_1781.jpg

We were really in need of something to drink and a little snack, so I ran over to a little stand. I bought some water, some sports drink a fruit tray, and a loaf of Mickey sourdough bread, (which we didn't eat until we got home. By that time it was really too dry to enjoy.)

Finally, it was time for the Pixar Play Parade!

Lightening McQueen and friends
100_1782.jpg

We soon discovered that the parade performers were armed and dangerous! :lmao: The characters and floats were armed with squirt guns and water cannons of various sizes and strength! We were being squirted left and right! :rotfl2: The water felt really good on this hot California day! :cool1:

Now, Donald was screaming and squirming - certain that the characters were somehow going to do something bad..... :confused3 About half way through the parade, he decided that it was okay, and actually started to have fun!

Minnie got alot of attention from the parade performers!

About this time, Mr. Potatoe Head lost his nose! He put both hands to his face and turned around, just like he was looking for it - the nose was rolling across the ground! :rotfl2: I thought it was part of the act - a helper put it on him, and as soon as he started walking, it fell off again!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

100_1814.jpg

Miss Bo Peep was appropriately shocked:

100_1816.jpg

Apparently, Mr. Potatoe head was grounded from the parade, cuz he couldn't keep his nose where it belonged!

100_1817.jpg

I laughed until I cried!

With the parade coming to a close, we decided that we'd better find something to eat. We headed over to the boardwalk area - having heard that the Corndog Castle was the best place in the world to get a corn dog! :thumbsup2

We found empty tables in Pizza Oom Mow Mow! It was almost totally empty. This had some really cool surfboards around the room, with surf shack motif around the room.

Goofy and Jiminy went out in the area in search of food. I got my corn dog - it was kind of burnt - that says alot coming from me. Donald got a McDonald's happy meal. I'm not sure what everyone had, but it was a good time to relax and cool off.

After our refreshments, we headed out to play. Donald wanted to play in this boat area, which was right outside.

We headed out to find some games:

Wow! Great parade pics Tammie! Is this similar to the HS parade (I haven't seen this one yet!). Looks like so much fun!!!

Those parade pics are great! That water guns sound very nice on a hot day.

So funny about Mr. Potatohead!

The parade was fun - I see my posting is a little disjointed - I have a few more pics of the parade and the boat play area - I had too many pics when I got done last night, and I was literally falling asleep while I was trying to edit them out. I'll get it straightened out later - might have to be tomorrow - busy day today!

The parade looks cute. Do they have designated wet and dry areas though. I don't think I would like to be squirted with water.

It's all wet - but the squirts are really light, so not hard to take, and they don't aim right at your face or anything - well, I think they aimed at Goofy one time, but it wasn't bad.
