Me, Tam and a couple of friends are going to Venice for 3 nights from Thursday.

Anyone out there have any advice on things not to be missed or nice places to eat?

Looking forward to plenty of nice Italian food and wine!

Kev

Great stuff, I'm going in two weeks ( £19 each way with GO from Stansted) , we've never been before so hopefully I can benefit from your experience :)

........ I LOVE Venice!! It's been years since I went there but I just love the place :)
Take a boat tour to the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello......... and watch the inflated prices of the restaurants in St Mark's Square........ that and the pigeons :D Use the ......... I've forgotten the name but it will come to me....... the boats that are like busses.
...... and do take Tammy on a gondola but for goodness sake Kevin........ don't sing "Just One Cornetto" at the top of your voice  or should that read "Just one more beer" ;) ?

Wow - have a fantastic time Kevin & Tammy - let us know all about it wont you :D

Is it for a special occassion - Anniversary or something??

:)

Venice and South Shields all in one year- you Stringers certainly know how to live :D

Those Vaporetti are great fun too.

Hope you have a lovely time.

Hi Kevin

You lucky thing! We last went to Venice in August and hopefully will manage to squeeze a couple of days in this year too. There are a couple of really good restaurants that I would recommend: Antico Dolo which is in Ruga Rialto, if you cross over the rialto bridge coming from St Marks direction and carrying on walking, it's on the right; it's an authentic venetian restaurant, dark and moody, and they don't speak too much English! Also, Alla Rivetta on Ponte san Provolo, which is behind the Hotel Danieli. It's located to the side of a bridge and is usually full of gondaliers and locals too, and gets busy! Unfortunately, when we went in August they were closed as that is the time when the venetians also go on their holidays, so we weren't able to go there!

Have a fab time!

Oh you lucky things. I love Venice. Gondolas are very ' touristy' but I loved them. I do think that it is a must do. Carolyn

Thanks very much for all your advice.

DFM - £19! That's incredible. I thought we were doing well at £176 for the 2 of us.

Shirley - Not sure about the gondola as I have heard that they are very expensive. We are doing the water bus from the airport to St Marks though.

Janice - No special occassion. Tam had an unexpected Christmas present and I offered to help her spend it!

Dave - I know it will struggle to match the wonders of South Shields, but we thought we would get this trip out the way before the main event!

Louise - Thanks for the tips on the restaurants. We intend to spend a good portion of our time eating and drinking.
