We're not decorating this year, anyone else?

Joe and I very much are in the holiday spirit. In fact. so much so, that I think I'm gonna break my record in the gifts category for my loved ones. But we both realized just how swamped we both are, including weekends, that we decided to skip decorating. Been getting home from work at about 8pm, plus working most weekends until January. And Joe's been busy with school and work as well. So, not a wreath, no lights, no tree, nada. Doesn't bother me in the slightest though. We'll be spending a few days at my folks' house and they're going to be decorated up the wazoo.

How about anyone else? Anyone just too busy to put their tree up or do anything in their home?

I wasn't going to decorate because I didn't think my family would care or even miss it. Well I told DD(14) that I wasn't going to decorate, and that didn't sit to well with her. So I put the tree up and decorated the house. I was surprised that my teen kids still cared about this stuff. Not looking forward to taking everything down and packing it all away. Hate that part!

Well, I did get the tree up & decorated; and I strung two strings of lights around the front porch. But the other boxes of decorations are staying in the basement. I just can't deal with it this year. DH is not going to be home until after the New Year; I dislocated my kneecap on Thanksgiving, and although I'm now walking around OK, I'm not in the mood to go up and down the basement stairs and such. I did buy plenty o' gifts for the kiddoes though and they're wrapped. We'll be spending Christmas day at my parents, who, like yours, will be decorated out the wazoo. :goodvibes

we haven't decorated our apartment since 2001. we usually hang up the cards we receive, but that is it. we are gone every year for christmas anyways, so there's not much point in decorating some place we won't even be for the two weeks surrounding xmas!

We have to decorate or it just does feel the same. Well that and we have two kids who would be very upset if we didn't! We or should I say I did cut back a little this year. Our DD started all day kindergarten this year and I fell into a great job that I can do at home. This working thing has changed a lot of things in our house after me being a SAHM for 8 years. I just really haven't had the time to go all out with decorating. Someone asked me why I didn't just decorate during lunch. I told them that I get to do other fun stuff like reloading the dishwasher and doing a load or two of laundry. Doesn't everybody wish they were so lucky!

I have a single strand of red and white lights up. In honor of the Wisconsin Badgers. That's it.

I used to put up a Holiday Tree. Really. Not a Christmas Tree, but a Holiday Tree. I have been an atheist forever, but I really liked the comfort of the traditions I grew up with. So, we had a Holiday Tree for years. My Jewish husband refused to decorate it, so we had a tree-trimming party. I scrapped the whole Holiday Tree idea when my DD was born since I did not want to confuse her. She is being raised Jewish (as much as my DH wants to, at least), so we'll have a menorah on the mantle later on.

Although I miss my Holiday Tree, I don't miss all the work and the mess.

no tree for us this year.
we're not home enough to enjoy it...and , well, no kids so no santa yet!
i did put up some lighted garland around the house, candles in the windows, and slapped a wreath on the door...and that's enough. hehjehe

Well now, that's a different story. If we had kids, I'd decorate with so much stuff around the house, it would look like the holiday store at Macy's. Heck, I'd even put an elastic Christmas doily on the toilet lid if I had to.

We have the lights up outside and the fake-pre-lit tree up, but we haven't put any ornaments on it and we don't plan on doing so. It's a little bit laziness, a little bit - the tree looks better plain.

I bought a commode set that turns the toliet into a chimney -- and the mat that goes around the toliet has Santa's boot prints on it.

(And my kids are 17 and 20! :rotfl: )

can I share a funny story here?
I was talking to a friend of mine...a newlywed...and she was telling me how she conned her hubby into helping decorate the tree.

well - she's deemed putting the lights on the tree a "boy job" (which I totally agree with)...but he was doing such a half-butted job about it all, and making a fool of himself, she finally screamed "stop stop - you're RUINING THIS FOR ME!!"

ok - show of hands - who's mother has screamed that before? "you're ruining this for me?"

I think that phrase went hand in hand with pulling out teh christmas decorations at my house growing up. heheheh

I love it! I'd laugh my rear end off if I saw that, but I'd love it nevertheless! That sounds awesome!

Note to self, pick up chimney set for the john. But clean john first.

although I put out our Christmas village and nativity scene - no Christmas tree this year - too much work, not enough time to do it and we're not going to be home for Christmas - thankfully the village is all lights, so that is plenty of lights for us!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Thanks- I needed that chuckle!

We put up a tree & garland around our stairs. But aren't going to decorate and put up lights outside this year. The weekends just keep getting past us and now it's just too late to waste the time... it seems alot of people in our neighborhood aren't bothering this year.

We probably wouldn't have bothered this year were it not for my granddaughter, but let's face it - where there's kids involved you pretty much HAVE to decorate.. LOL.. Granddaughter's Disney tree went up in her room last week..

We got the family tree up and a few other things yesterday.. Today I added a few things from my own house and I think that's going to be it.. No outside lights this year - just the "Santa Please Stop Here" sign.. :flower:

Oh, I have not that, stinkerbelle. DH tries to but the decorations on the tree and he just doesn't do it right so I have to redo everything. :smooth:

Just this weekend he folded towels that were washed and was going to put them away and I told him to leave them on the bed because I had to refold them ( They fit better on the shelf folded in 3rds). He said you know you have hit bottom when you can't even fold towels right. :rotfl:

We are going out of town for Christmas so the only thing I put up was a wreath on the front door. We aren't coming back until the 28th and I just didn't feel like taking all that stuff down.

I put up the tree this weekend, but if it wasn't for my MIL coming over Christmas Eve, I probably wouldn't have bothered. We are going over to WDW on Christmas to spend two nights. And really I am just not in the holiday mood this year.

We haven't done a bit of decorating, but just because we can't seem to find the time!

We have a huge pre-lit tree, but I need DH's help to get it off the shelf and assemble it. DH & I have been working so that hasn't happened yet.

The boxes of decorations are 1) crammed in my closet and 2) crammed under my bed. I keep thinking I will haul them out and at least put up the wreath and whatever, but I haven't.

We have a kitten who is horribly naughty. I am worried about her destroying my tree and all the Hallmark ornaments on it. The other day she was playing in the kitchen and bit through a can of Pepsi. It sprayed all over the kitchen and soaked her belly. Of course she took off running like her butt was on fire, leaving a delightful trail of Pepsi as she went. She has very long, fine hair. It was not a good thing for her to be doused with Pepsi. But DH thinks maybe we can keep her away from the tree if we hang Pepsi cans around the bottom branches.

DS9 keeps asking WHEN are we going to decorate? My intentions are good, but you know what they say about good intentions!

I thought maybe we could do a little each evening, but now DS tells me he has a project about Mars due THURSDAY! :earseek: He hasn't started it, even though he knew all weekend he should be working on it! We are going to be making posters of Mars, not trimming the tree! And tomorrow night is his holiday program at school. UGH!

One year when it was just DH and me we didn't put the tree up because we were both working too much to be bothered. It was quite liberating. I guess we will get the tree up eventually. If not, there's always next year! ;)

DD put one tree up on a weekend home from college. We've done it in patriotic ornaments since DS is in Iraq and will not have leave for 6 months or longer. We're going to leave it up until he comes home. Put the stockings on the fireplace, but that's it. No wreaths, no lights, nothing. I did light a few candles last night to unwind and it was very nice. I'm actually glad that there won't be anything much to deal with after Christmas as in years past. And we'll now have a lovely tree for the 4th of July.......................
