We're headed back!

Greetings! So, somehow my wife and I have convinced ourselves that it was necessary to return to Disneyland. It started out as a trip to LA to visit all the great museums (Natural History Museum, LACMA, Space Center, Getty, etc., etc.) and realizing that the best "family friendly" hotels (i.e., fridge, microwave, laundry facilities, reasonable parking) are all around Disneyland, we decided to stay there instead and so of course, we're not going to stay next to Disneylan and not actualy GO to Disenyland. Of course, I'm just making hotel bookings now for a trip that's two weeks away so all our usual favorites (Camelot, the two Best Westerns) are all booked, the next resort (based on TripAdvisor review), is The Anaheim Hotel, which, though with decent reviews, is a little further than I'd like. So my question is, with the availabilities the hotel show, is it common/often that they may change (i.e., rooms open up)? Or is it pretty much a done deal? Ideally, I'm going to be booking via Chase Ultimate Rewards as we have a bunch of points there. I've also tried booking direct but neither shows availability for the three preferred hotels I mentioned.

Thanks! We are so looking forward to heading back!

Hotel availability changes constantly. I would highly recommend booking a flexible rate (refundable until the day of or evening before) and checking often to see if a more preferred hotel opens.

Anaheim Hotel is a short walk from the entrance to DL. Any hotel in Anaheim will be a drive from the places you mentioned in Los Angeles. You get more hotel for less in Anaheim but the trade off is several hours commuting each day you head north.

Have you checked the resort hotels? They're having a sale right now and DLH was $376 some nights when I booked my February 5-9 trip. ( Rates vary from night to night, of course.)

I'd keep checking the hotels you like a few times a day. People always cancel trips so you might luck out and get rooms at one of your preferred hotels.

Thanks everyone! Yes we're aware of the long drives everytime leaving Anaheim to those other places and yes, we still plan do to those other thigns (museums, etc.) and so the plan is that on the non-Disney days, those will be "day trips", grouping attractions that are closer together and hitting those in one day.

For now, I've booked a refundable fare booking for the Hyatt House on Katella. It's further than even The Anaheim Hotel, but the full suite rooms w/ kitchen sparked my interest. Besides, I figured that the in mid-February the weather should still be agreeable for a long walk. Ok, I'll continue to check my first choice hotels and see if anything changes. Either way, it'll be great just being there again!

On a side note, I was reminded of a hotel my dad would book for us when I went to Disney as a kid (mid-80's), it was called the Waikiki Inn and is located where the Alamo Rent A Car is on Katella (next to the Desert Palms). We'd walk from there to the park and I remember the walk being brutal in the summer heat with short legs. Ironically, should we end up staying at the Hyatt House, it's actually about the same distance! Ha Ha.
