Has anyone seen them? Every year I say I'm going to do this and I never get around to it. This year I got 2 weeks off at Christmas so DM, youngest DS and I are going. We will have dinner at Wilson Lodge and, hopefully, we will be able to take the trolley thru town to see the lights.

I have never gone to see them myself but I hear they are beautiful from what my friends and family who have seen them have told me. I hope you all have a great time!

Tuffcookie, we have been going to Oglebay every year since 1990 (well, we missed 1991 because DS11 was due in Dec.). We make a long weekend out of it the beginning of December, and stay overnight at Wilson Lodge (the boys MUST have room 601 since it's the closest to the indoor pool). You'll love it!

The entire resort is decked out in lights; this year they've added lots of Snoopy lights (there's even a Snoopy display outside the indoor pool, right outside room 601). Get your tickets for the trolley ride as soon as you get there - they sell them at the front desk of Wilson Lodge, $5 a person, and the trolley leaves hourly on the half-hour starting at 5:30. I can't remember when the last one leaves. The trolley driver will tell you some neat things about the light displays - this year somebody strung up the lights wrong, so the wheels on Cinderella's carriage turn backward (unless they fixed it since we were there). The candy cane wreath is awesome - the first year Oglebay did the lights (1985) a couple got married under the candy cane wreath when the temp. was only 11º. My favorite is the poinsettia wreath over on the golf course, and then there's the snowflake tunnel you drive thru. Geez, I could go on and on!! If you have time, stop in the gift shop and buy a video of the lights. They even sell a different ornament each year based on one of the light displays. I have every single one since we've been going!

If you have any other questions, let me know. I LOVE Oglebay!

We went last week and just drove through ourselves, the traffic was horrendous! The trolley ride sounds very nice.

The Snowflake Tunnel was very beautiful.
Have fun!

Let me know how it is! We say we're going to go every year and still haven't gone! Enjoy yourself!

That sounds like fun! Have a great time and tell us all about it when you get back.

WOW...what a small world.....I live five minutes from Oglebay Park...it is actually located outside Wheeling, WV.
It really is an amazing spectacle....hope you are not disappointed with Wheeling's City of Lights this year...budgetary concerns have definitely had an impact....
Our city manager has stated to the media....that "things of this nature run their course and there are no guarantees for the future as to the extensiveness of the displays....they have eliminated some of the large snowflakes...and we in the suburbs are definitely "a little darker".....
Have an awesome time:bounce:

We're back! It took a little over 2 hours to drive there. We arrived around 3 PM and immediately signed up for the trolley. Then we had dinner at Wilson Lodge. Afterwards we boarded the trolley. The trolley is $5 a person and I thought it would be nice to leave the driving to someone else. WRONG!!! The trolley was not heated and the windows were all fogged up. Nobody could see a thing! You could wipe the windows and 5 minutes later they would be fogged up again! A man that was sitting across from me said they went on it before and they were handed paper towels to wipe the windows with then! Anyway, I decided after the trolley ride I would just drive the route in my car so we could see the displays better. It costs $7 per car to drive your own car thru. When I asked the man selling the trolley tickets if he had some sort of validation ticket I could put in my car window so I wouldn't have to pay again to go thru, since we couldn't see it very well, he refunded me the original $15 we had paid out for the trolley!:D

It was much more enjoyable in my own vehicle and I'm glad we took the time to go see it!
