DH gave me a book tonight when he got home from work. The title is "South-East England". I looked at it and was thinking "why on earth are you giving me this book?" and I looked up at him and he's got a big grin on his face. So I asked him - "What made you chose this book for me, dear?" completely confused. And he says "I thought you might like to learn about the place where you'll be vacationing this summer before we go." I said "oh", then I said "OH!!!" (lightbulb clicks on  ) We're going to England! :woohoo:

DH has spent months in England - he did a semester of studies there and has been back every few years since then. I've never been "across the pond" in that direction - I've only visited South East Asia and the South Pacific - but I've always wanted to go to Europe. I didn't think we could afford to go, but it turns out that DH has been sneaky about saving work bonuses and stock options money to surprise me with this trip.

So now I'm dying for more information - has anyone been and do you have suggestions? We're only going to spend a few days in London because of the cost, and most of our time will be down in Kent and Sussex. Sounds like we can only get 10 days in, but we'd like to make the most of our time. We don't have exact dates yet (I have to work it out with the family I nanny for), but we're hoping for June or July.

Any advice, tips, suggestions, etc.?

If you post on the UK community board you'll get loads of help! :goodvibes I'm from the north of England and I'm not too familiar with Kent and Sussex. I hope that you have a great trip! :thumbsup2

BTW I noticed that you live in San Jose! That's where DH is from. I lived there for 10 years before we moved to the UK

Ok so you are going to be visiting my part of the world  Lets start by getting some history done with, 1066 and the Battle of Hastings very important round here, so a visit to Battle would be good and then along to Eastbourne and the white cliff with Beachy Head.
A few days in London is a must do for all the shopping and sight seeing. The how about a trip across to France for a day? If driving go by tunnel and if not go by sea from Dover.
Kent is pretty with all it hops gardens and Oast Houses and a trip to Canterbury for its Cathedral and again the history.

Hope that gives you a bit of an idea. Ask away if you have any question and I shall answer the best I can or point you in the right direction.

BTW it looks like we will be in your neck of the woods in mid June :teeth:

Claire ;)
